In the year 2387, a group of human colonists live on the planet Maris, hailed as a "second Earth." However, the colonists are attacked by the Noza aliens-Maris' only hope is a captured alien weapon system known as the "Zillion Gun." Three of these fall into the hands of the defenders, and a team of brave young freedom fighters calling themselves the White Nauts/Nuts (White Knights in the U.S. release) fight for their people's survival. The 1988 video release Burning Night was a one-shot written and directed by Nishikubo, set in the peacetime after the aliens have been seen off. Former comrades Champ, Dave, JJ, and cute girl Apple form a rock band (see Dancougar) but have to call on their old combat skills again when Apple is kidnapped by a criminal gang. Made just after Robotech Sentinels was canceled, Zillion incorporated some of the design work undertaken for the aborted project by Tatsunoko. The whole series was based on a toy-a photoelectric gun used for Lazer Tag-and only 5 of the 31 episodes, plus Burning Night (released as Zillon Special: BN) appeared on video in the U.S.
