Yuzu Kurosaki is one of the sisters of Ichigo Kurosaki. Though she can not seen ghosts.

Yuzu Kurosaki is the daughter of Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki. Her fraternal twin sister is Karin, and her older brother is Ichigo Kurosaki. The life they had was happy and full of joy for her, but she began to isolate herself after her mother was killed when she was six year-old. She felt the need to mature to help out around the house. Karin was good at house work, so she took on the duty of cooking and cleaning. She's jealous of her brother and sister's ability to see ghosts.

The character of Yuzu Kurosaki is a supporting character of the BLEACH series that was created by Tite Kubo, It first began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2001. She was first introduced during the Agent of the Shinigami story arc.

She first appeared in BLEACH Volume 1, CH. 1 "Strawberry & The Soul Reaper", and her first anime appearance was in BLEACH - Episode 1 "The Day I Became a Shinigami ". Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Tomoe Sakuragawa, and the U.S. dub produced by VIZ Media is done by Janice Kawaye.

Yuzu Kurosaki is a sweet and innocent preteen girl who cares deeply for her family. She has short light-brown hair, like her mother, and brown eyes. She is much more soft and feminine that her two sister. She's a dutiful child who took on the roles of cooking and cleaning for the house after her mother's death. She's rather jealous of her siblings ability to see ghosts, despite both of them treating it as an irritation.

Yuzu clings to Ichigo far more that Karin, and she cries when he's gone for long periods. Unlike Karin who calls Ichigo "Ichi-nii", Yuzu addresses her brother with the slightly more formal "Onii-chan". She craves his praise and tries to earn his attention. To date, it's unknown if Yuzu is aware of Ichigo's dual identity as a Soul Reaper. Karin knows and possible has said nothing to her sister.

After the seventeen month time skip, Yuzu's personality has shown no change. The most dramatic change is that her hair is noticeable longer and wears it in short pigtails tied with strawberry decorated scrunchies. She is just as kind, but seems to be more aggressive about trying to get Ichigo's attention. She tries to pose in her new school uniform for him and gets angry when she thinks he ignored her. Later she tries to earn his praise by showing him her grades, but she could tell something was wrong with how relaxed he seemed.

Ichigo came one one night after complaining about seeing more and more ghosts lately. He went to bed early due to their father's, Isshin, silliness. Later that night, a Hollow broke into their home, attacked Karin, and captured Yuzu. It had been after Ichigo. He was aided by Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, to defeat the creature. Rukia healed Yuzu and Karin, and she used a device to change their memories to think a car hit the house.

Several days later, Yuzu rushed out to help her father to tend to the injured of a nearby car wreck. One of the injured was a friend of Ichigo, Sado Yasutora. He had a terrible wound on his back, and Karin was feeling sick after seeing the parakeet Sado had with him. Sado left the family clinic the next day, and Ichigo went out to find him. Karin was still very sick and left school to go home. Yuzu found Karin in bed, and she crawled in to join her to sleep that night.

The next day at school, she saw Ichigo leaping over the school wall. Karin didn't believes her Ichigo could jump over the eight foot wall, but saw for herself as Yuzu pointed at Ichigo jumping over fifteen feet. Karin stopped her from calling out, saying it couldn't be the real Ichigo. They later heard a guy with orange hair attacked some of the school's students, but Karin said it couldn't be Ichigo.

On anniversary of their mother's death, their father scheduled a special outing to visit their mother's grave. Ichigo ran off when they saw Rukia Kuchiki, and they went on to pray at the grave. Karin tried to sooth Yuzu as she cried over her mother, and saw a ghost in the distance. This ghost revealed to be a trap of the very Hollow that murdered their mother, Grand Fisher. It first attacked Karin then Yuzu, but she couldn't see it. As they both passed out, they were saved by Ichigo. He put them in a safe place and went off to fight the monster. He survived, Grand Fisher ran away, and Yuzu thought it was all a bad dream.

It was while cleaning Ichigo's room that she found a dirty stuffed animal, Kon. She cleaning him, she dressed him in some frilly clothes, and used him to play house with her other stuffed animals. She decided to name him "Bostov". She woke up the next morning to find him missing.

Yuzu, Karin, and Isshin all went to the live filming of Yuzu's favorite ghost-hunting show starring Don Kanonji. It was at an abandoned hospital, and Ichigo was there with Rukia and his friends from school. A large commotion broke out as students tried jumping the ropes. Karin was disturbed by the presence of the ghosts, but Yuzu was more curious where Ichigo had gone. She was surprised when the next day that Don Kanonji came to their family clinic to see Ichigo. She literally stepped over him to greet her favorite TV show star. Ichigo left, and Don Kanonji got along with Isshin.

It was during the summer fireworks festival that both Karin and Yuzu accidentally drank some sake and got a bit drunk. Ichigo left for the Soul Society the next day to save Rukia. Ichigo's disappearance was filled in by the mod soul Kon in Ichigo's body. While cleaning Ichigo's room again, she found Bostov tucked inside a drawer. It was in that time that Kon's stuffed animal body suffered massive damage. Bostov went missing again soon after the real Ichigo returned.

Arrancar Arc

Not long after the real Ichigo returned that the Espada attacked. Ichigo was hurt, and the Soul Society sent several Soul Reapers for the town's protection. Rukia tricked Isshin into letting her stay at their home. Despite finding Bostav again, Yuzu was sad after Ichigo was missing for a month. Even in her sleep she was crying in worry. Yuzu didn't know what he was doing, but he had left again to Hueco Mundo when he learned that he and everyone else had been saved by Orihime Inoue handing herself over to the forces of Sousuke Aizen.

Hueco Mundo Arc

In response to the plot of Aizen, The Gotei 13 transported Karakura Town to the Soul Society and all the people were put to sleep for their own safety. Yuzu and Karin were among the people sleeping during the war with Aizen's army. Ichigo defeated Aizen, but lost all his powers.

Seventeen months passed had passed, and Yuzu wanted to surprise Ichigo with her new school uniform. She wasn't happy when she thought he was ignoring her, but dismissed her father when he asked her what he should wear. She tried again to earn Ichigo's praise by showing her high test score, but was surprised when she got it. She could tell something was upsetting him. That night, Karin hurt Yuzu's feelings by teasing her about her feelings for their brother.

Some time later, Yuzu and Karin were both attacked by Shūkurō Tsukishima. He used his Fullbring powers to manipulate their memories to make them think he was their cousin. This was all part of a plot to antagonize Ichigo. They were later used as hypnotized hostages at Tsukishima's home in a mock surprised party for Ichigo.

Powers & Abilities

Yuzu's spiritual awareness is very limited when compared to Ichigo and Karin. She can only seen ghosts as very faint blurs. Though Karin's abilities have grown through the series, Yuzu has shown no growth.

Other Media

Yuzu Kurosaki is a popular character in BLEACH and has made numerous appearances in the different products based on Tite Kubo's original manga. These include the anime, animated movies, and video games.


In the BLEACH anime series based upon Tite Kubo's manga, the parts of Karin and Yuzu was switched in the first episode as it was played in the manga. The anime version had Yuzu being captured by the hollow that Ichigo fought. In the manga, it was Yuzu.
