One half of the Lovely Angels a.k.a. Dirty Pair. Yuri is skilled in using a sword, some guns and piloting spacecrafts. She is very ditzy yet smart and is usually thinking about boys or her looks while on missions.
Born on March 18th, 2122 on the planet Yocha, Yuri is of Japanese descent and raised as a reserved and feminine person. She and her future partner Kei met and studied at Mezuiru University before they joined the Criminal Investigations Section of the World Welfare Works Association (3WA or WWWA) which is a megacorporation that specializes in assisting member planets of the United Galactica via teams of "trouble consultants" who handle planetary-scale problems that these worlds cannot resolve themselves.
Teamed up with Kei as Team 234, the voluptuous duo were code named "The Lovely Angels" and promptly became one of the most infamous pair in 3WA's history. Although charged with keeping the peace, every mission that the Lovely Angels are involved in ends up in disaster (but not failure). They always get their man, but inadvertently cause massive collateral property damage, wrecking entire cities ... if they're lucky, as a few of their larger scale disasters have been planetary in scope. They are consistently investigated by the 3WA's Central Computer who reluctantly determines that the damage is technically not their fault (although their mere presence has been known to make things worse). But their unfortunate reputation often precedes them as no one knows them by their code names anymore. Instead they are disgracefully, notoriously, infamously known as ... "The Dirty Pair".
Originally created by Haruka Takachiho who a series of light hearted science fiction serials based of the Dirty Pair, which is also his most well known work.
According to legend, Takachiho was attempting to entertain a visiting British SF author, A. Bertram Chandler and it was suggested by several young staffers at his studio to bring him to see the All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling tournament (which was part of the World Women’s Wrestling Association or WWWA) which was very popular at the time. The leading ladies were the Beauty Pair whose were said to have been so brutal in the wrestling ring that Chandler remarked that “they really ought to be called the Dirty Pair”.
Takachiho was apparently inspired by the female duo of rough-housing wrestlers into a pair of female detectives in a series of space-opera mystery stories. The Dirty Pair first appeared as a series of story chapters in a Japanese magazine known as SF Magajin in 1979 and proved popular enough to appear irregularly over the years and were even compiled into a novelized book format.
The series has bounced around from multiple production companies and has produced various anime, manga, films, and radio adaptation series in addition to several new novels.
