Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files

Yu yu Hakusho has several story arcs.

Spirit Detective

Middle school street punk, Yusuke Urameshi, who is known well for his constant truancy, status as a strong street fighter and his unique green school outfit , dies at the beginning of the show to save the life of a little boy who ran back into a street and into a path of a speeding car while Yusuke jumps in the way of the car to push the boy to safety but gets struck by the vehicle himself. Yusuke then wakes up as a ghost over the scene of his death and wonders why his body is down on the street while he's upin the air. He recalls the events of his day to try and figure out what's going on. He eventually remembers he was hit and killed by a car and figures out that he is a ghost Soon after, the Grim Reaper, Botan, arrives and Yusuke is surprised that a woman that looks like her and not someone in black is the Grim Reaper. He then says he is ready to be taken to any afterlife, including Hell, with no regrets because he thinks no one will miss him when he's gone. Botan then tells Yusuke that it was not his time to pass on. The Spirit World didn't expect Yusuke to die because they thought that "a person like Yusuke" would never risk his life to save the little boy and in fact the kid would have survived with one less bruise because the reckless driver would have simply swerved out of the child's path. To fix this mistake, Yusuke must fly around in ghost form with Botan to find suitable candidates to help revive him, which are the people who care about him the most. It comes narrowed down to his mother, Atsuko and two his long time fellow classmates, Keiko Yukimura and Kazuma Kuwabura. Eventually Keiko is chosen to be the one to revive Yusuke. Koenma lights Yusuke's body with yellow spirit energy and then Koenma has to kiss Yusuke on the lips to revive Urameshi and she does.

During Yusuke's time as a ghost, he learned his signature move, the Spirit Gun. Koenma teaches him to do it by telling him he can stick his index finger and like a gun, make a beam of spirit energy fire out of it.

Soon after Yusuke was revived, Botan, disguised as a human fortuneteller, was to reveal to Yusuke that he has been chosen to become a Spirit Detective. Yusuke ignores her, thinking she was just some waste of his time fortuneteller and then ends up solving the very case Botan was sent to give him. Yusuke goes to a hangout spot and with his new psychic ability that he was previously unaware of, he sees a teenager that's been recently doing mischievous plots with a small demon on him who is invisible to all non-psychics and is possessing the teenage boy he's on. Yusuke later simply picks up and takes the small demon off of the teenager and wonders what in the world it is because he is unaware of what demons look like. Botan arrives and congratulates him on solving a supernatural case he had no idea he was supposed to and tells him he is going to be a spirit detective. Koenma decided to make him one after seeing Yusuke's heart of gold during the time Urameshi was a ghost.

For the first assignment that he actually accepts as Spirit Detective, Yusuke must track down 3 demon thieves, two of them being Hiei, a short sword wielding demon who uses demon energy to use fire powers and as well as other powers from his 3rd eye called the Jagan Eye and Kurama, a high school teenage boy that has been possessed by a spirit fox demon ever since he was in his mother's womb. Kurama uses demon energy powered plant based attacks such as his Rose Whip. These thieves have stolen 3 artifacts from the Spirit World and want to use them for various reasons. Koenma wants Yusuke to retrieve them as soon as possible or his father who is currently away, King Yama, will punish Koenma if the artifacts aren't returned before he returns home.

Genkai's Tournament

After Yusuke solves the case of the three artifacts, Botan tells him he has to go meet Genkai to track down a demon named Rando who has killed 99 psychics and stolen each one of their powers and Botan and Koenma have gained information that Genkai may be Rando's 100th target. Yusuke must go to the mountain Genkai lives at and compete in a tournament who's winner will learn Genkai's spirit techniques that she wants to pass on before she dies. Rando is said to be one of the people who will be attending this tournament. Yusuke has to stop Rando from gaining these abilities or Rando will use them for evil. Kuwabara is also one of the people to enter Genkai's tournament.
