In regards to Yoko as a person and character, what do you think her name means for her? I ask because I got curious about the name itself and did a Google search. Using the parts "yo" and "ko" as well as "yoko," I found some examples from random web pages:

 ocean child
sun child
honored child
good girl
good child

Now, Yoko's name can either mean one of those examples, or Gainax could have just thought of the name and simply ran with it.
A friend of mine likes the term "sun child" for Yoko, and I agree. He told me:

Sun Child fits Yoko's personality, too: She was always approachable, compassionate, generous, gregarious, mature and wise. Plus, she radiated such beauty!

With that I mind, he and I also happen to believe that Yoko herself was born on the surface and raised in her home village.
That's all I got for now. What do you think?

Well I haven't done any google research but it always seemed to me that her last name Littner sounded like lantern or light, which could also be related to the fact that she came from the surface and would combine with the sun childĀ“s supposed meaning of Yoko.
