The young manga division of Hachette Book Group.

History

Founded in 2006 as a division of Hachette Book Group USA, Yen Press began operation with former Borders buyer Kurt Hassler and former DC VP of Book Trade Sales Rich Johnson acting as co-publishers.  In 2007 the company absorbed IceKUNION, a North American publisher of Korean manhwa. In April of 2008, Yen licensed The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya manga, with sibling company Little, Brown acquiring the rights to the Haruhi novels; given the popularity of the series, this was seen by many as a major coup. 
 
In July of 2008, Yen premiered its anthology Yen Plus, which contains manga, manhwa, and original English-language manga.

On October 23, 2008 Yen and Orbit, a sci-fi novel division of Hachette, were folded into the same division, although according to the press release they will continue to operate and grow independently. At this time Rich Johnson left the company.

The title of "Omnibus" has been attached to several volumes published by Yen Press. More often these are on licensed books they were at one time published by other companies in the U.S. Two such examples would be the series Azumanga Daioh! and Darker Than Black. Both series were published once before by separate publishers. For different reasons, Yen Press acquired the rights to publish in the U.S. Rather than republish each of these books individually again. Yen Press opted to publish these series in combined compilation. Azumanga Daioh! was originally four volumes when published by ADV. These were all combined into one large volume for Yen Press. Darker Than Black was two volumes, and this too was published as one large volume for Yen Press.
