There've been several cases lately that anime fans have been watching closely, including that of James Corey Hammond, a Canadian man charged with possessing child pornography-- including, but not limited to, anime depicting underage males engaged in graphic sex. In other words-- yaoi. Not to say all yaoi features underage men AND graphically-depicted sex, mind, but enough of yaoi and heterosexual-type hentai feature underage characters and of course hardcore materials that fans of all flavors should be aware of the case.

Hammond has plead guilty to the whole thing, which means that the case isn't going to trial-- not that it would have mattered in Canada, where there's a clear law against “a photographic, film, video or other visual representation” of a minor engaged in sexual acts or poses. (In the United States, there is a law in place that makes hand-drawn depictions of minors in explicit intercourse illegal, but this law hasn't been fully tested in the courts, so it's not entirely clear yet whether it will stick.)

The sentencing date has been set to March (Via ANN.)

When it says "underage males engaged in graphic sex" of course the authorities in Canada will sentence you to jail because its a case of pedophilia material. And there is alot of pedophiles here in North America and they have to be cautious about these thing.

That pic is hysterical though, but funny matters aside. This is quite a serious issue.

OkazukiIchigo: There's still some debate in the States about whether *hand-drawn depictions* of underage persons engaging in graphic sex (regardless of gender) should be illegal.

It sounds like the person had shota mangas which is controversial because many shota mangas do have prepubescents depicted in sexual situations with other prepubescents, adolecents, and adults.  Although its entirely fiction and illustrated, it looks like its getting people into serious trouble if they get caught purchasing such material.

@Sonata: I'd think that unlikely, since he had real live-type video as well as anime.
