Watanuki Kimihiro was born with the ability to see spirits, as a result the 'ayakashi' (bad spirits) always go and bug him, causing him a lot of grief that ordinary people cannot see. Upon encountering an unsual shop, the shop owner Ichihara Yuko claims that she can help him, for a price that equates to her help.
"There is no coincidence, only inevitability" is what the mysterious shop owner Ichihara Yuko says to Watanuki Kimihiro when he accidentally stumbles upon her shop while running away from 'ayakashi' or spirits. Watanuki is a young man born with the ability to see spirits and was constantly troubled by spirits that want to consume him. Upon meeting Yuko, however, she offers to help him if he works part-time at her shop. And so, Watanuki is thrown into a world of supernatural happenings.
