History

When the five scientists who designed the XXXG-00W0 (Wing Gundam Zero) in AC 180 went their separate ways, each of them took copies of the plans for their original Gundam design. Doctor S, who went into hiding in the L3 colonies, then went on to design and build his own Gundam based on their original plans. Built with the support of the Barton Foundation, Doctor S's XXXG-01H Gundam Heavyarms was intended to be used in the originally planned Operation Meteor, and was to be deployed after dropping a space colony on Earth. Doctor S and his assistants, not wanting it to be used as a tool for mass murder, killed the Heavyarms' original pilot, Trowa Barton - the son of Dekim Barton. One of the mobile suit's mechanics, a mysterious and nameless young man, took on Trowa's identity and took the Heavyarms to Earth in the "new" Operation Meteor, foregoing the colony drop and instead using the Gundam directly against OZ's military forces.

Built of almost indestructible gundanium alloy, the "Gundam 03" (as it was code-named by OZ) was virtually a walking fortress, packing an enormous amount of firepower in the form of Gatling guns, machine cannons, vulcan guns, dumb and homing missiles, and a large shield-laden beam Gatling gun. While this firepower could overwhelm a large number of enemies, the Heavyarms often paid the price by quickly running out of ammo. However, the Gundam also carried a heated "army knife" blade on its right forearm for close combat as backup. The "new" Trowa Barton, with his fast reflexes and acrobatic abilities, would often rely on these skills to keep him and his Gundam alive even after he expended all of his ammunition.

The Heavyarms Gundam was never completely destroyed nor was it self-detonated for much of the Gundam Pilots' campaign. In Antarctica, Trowa temporarily lends the suit to Heero Yuy for his dual against Zechs Merquise, but the fight is interrupted and the suit doesn't sustain any notable damage. Trowa then continues using Heavyarms until he travels to space and infiltrate OZ and
abandons it on Earth. The Gundam is recovered by Sally Po, who delivers it to Peacemillion in space. On Peacemillion, the Heavyarms is upgraded to Heavyarms Kai to make it suitable for space combat. The only noticeable physical differences between the two versions is the addition of another beam Gatling gun attached to the shield and the addition of boosters on various parts of the suit, though the performance is greatly affected. The Gundam Heavyarms holds the record of being the only Gundam of the original five to survive the entire campaign in Gundam Wing relatively intact, and it is never completely destroyed until AC 197 (Endless Waltz).
