History of the Franchise

Witchblade started as a comic series  with a twist, the entire characters where changed along with most of the plot. In an all new way to work on animes, Gonzo a Japanese  company worked along with Top cow, the project started in early 2005 and aired its first episode in April 2006 and ran for 24 episodes ending in that September, The series was directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi, The English Dubbed version only aired last year in America (January 2008) and was also released  on 6 DVD volumes in august 2008, The DVD has a few differences from that of the original program aired in Japan, As her costume was too ravelling they had censored out some of her body with blackened areas that looked like part of the costume, this was removed for the DVD version. 
 

Plot

Similar in ways to Top Cow's version, we follow the story of a young woman named Masane Amaha, who has an ordinary life. Her memory is lost after and accident and she beings to go about her normal life, Returning to Japan with her daughter, she finds out that the jewel embed in her arm is in fact the witchblade and now is stuck in a battle by the large corporation and the Government, As she tries to keep her life as normal as possible for her and for her segregate daughter.

Takeru Ibaraki  has been having nightmares about a gualet calling out to her, This guanlet is the witchblade, It is heald with in a glass case protected by the temples houses, Her blood line has a link to the witchblade and is mixed in with the Oni and explains her dreams and link to the witchblade. Ultimately, Takeru's life suffers a drastic change when she becomes the next bearer of the Witchblade due to some circumstances that force her to randomly encounter it.

This takes place before the anime series and follows the story of Yuri Miyazono a 15 year old girl who  uses the witchblade for her own protection, She recived the witchblade after Takeru Ibaraki from the first novel, She is the witchblade holder before Masane Amaha, the main character in the anime.
