The Angel Of Death ,Walter C. Dornez is the retainer for the Hellsing organization and one of their greatest weapons.
Walter is a Hellsing operative who has been with the Hellsing organization since he was a child. He was educated at the same school as Sir Arthur Hellsing and Hugh Irons where Balliol College. During the events of Hellsing: The Dawn we see a young Walter and Alucard in the form of a small girl fighting in World War Two, They were ordered to attack Millennium’s Warsaw base and prevent The Major from making his undead army with freak chips, This is the first time we see Walter in Action as he tears into the Millenniums troops and even mocks the major openly, It gives us a small look into Walter sadistic side. No one knows the true events on what happened in this battle but it appear that Alucard and Walter were successful during the battle and Millenniums plans have been destroyed. When Sir Arthur Hellsing passed away, Walter was nowhere to be found and it is now believed he knew that after the death of Arthur that his brother Richard Hellsing planned on killing the young Integra Hellsing before she took over. As her uncle hunted her it is believed that
Walter had planned the release of Alucard simple by not being there forced Integral to look for another means of protection from her Uncle so she sought out the secret weapon that her father locked away Alucard.
As Walter ages he takes the job as Sir integral body guard and butler and is shown to still have amazing fighting skills when Luke and Jan Valentine attack the Hellsing Manor, ripping the horde of vampire ghouls to shreds with his razor sharp wires and even chopping of the arms of Jan Valentine and in a display of accuracy rips Jans lip piercing out with the flick of his wrist without even cutting the lip with his wire. Even Alucard recognize Walters’s skills and nicknames him the Angel Of Death. But he is also a skilled gunsmith making weapons for both Seras and Alucard, He somewhat becomes like a father figure to Seras, helping her with problems that Alucard has proposed to her or often talking to her after she has made a mistake and helping her. When Millennium resurfaces Walter denies all knowledge of anyone escaping the facility back in Warsaw and seems to have memory lapses when it goes back to that time. But later on says he remember that no one escapes when Alucard prods a little deeper. But as we look back over Walters’s action he seems loyal to the Hellsing family and even protects Integral Hellsing during Millenniums London invasion. As The Captain arrives, Walters’s apparent rival from the Warsaw battle, he tells Integral to flee and he will protect her. We do not see the fight take part but later we see Walter under the hands of The Doctor and The Major. The Major smiles at Walter and says “it was determined 55 years ago that you would join us”
As he under goes the surgery we are unsure if Walter has been forced into it or is a willing Millennium operative. It would make sense if he was a traitor explain how the Valentine brothers found the location of the Hellsing manor, After the Freak Chip has been put in place Walter has reverted back to his age when he attacked Millennium in Warsaw. Standing on the end of a blimp he watches the battle between Alucard and Alexander Anderson rage on below, As Anderson passes away the young Walter jumps from his place above landing and crushes the remains of Anderson under his foot saying that he had become trash not that he was dead. A fellow Iscariot goes feral at the scene ( Yumie) and attacks Walter. With a quick flick of his hand he cuts her in half with one of his wires in a display of his new found powers words are exchanged between the two former allies and soon the battle begins. We soon discover that Walter had been betraying Hellsing for sometime when Alucard pulls the Jackal the weapon that Walter made for him and it explodes in the vampires hand. It turns out that The Doctor had a remote detention device that triggered the explosion. Seeing as the weapon never left Alucards side since Walter gave it to him it is safe to say Walter planted the explosives himself.
As the battle rages on it soon looks as if Walter has the upper hand tearing apart Alucard and then impaling him, But it turns out to be a illusion cast by the Vampire who appears behind him in the body of the young girl he had taken over during Warsaw raid and takes Walter by surprise, gaining the upper hand. But it does not last long, because Alucard drinks the blood of the dead of the city of London and seems to have won the day, Until Schrodinger, a young Catboy in the Millennium force commits suicide and allows his blood to be drunk along with the rest of the city. Walter begs the Major to let him kill Alucard without any help and Alucard vanishes apparently beaten by the poison now in his blood. As these events unfold the chip has been freaking out forcing Walter to become younger and younger as he kneels on the ground an Alucard is gone a shot rings out and Heinkel Wolfe continues to fire she strikes at him in revenge of killing her partner Yumie and insulting father Anderson and as she runs out of ammo charges head long at him at him and is cut down as Walter attacks back. Vanishing from the battle Walter is seen in The Doctors lab confronting him about the things he has created. As the Doctor tries to kill Walter he is cut down by Walters wire and reveals the truth of his research: Mina Harker.
It turns out that because Dracula (Alucard's real name and persona) was never killed, that Mina Harker remained infected by vampirism and as she was turned by Alucard, They had been using her body to make the freak chips and vampires for their army. Realising that everything that Millennium had made was just a cheap imitation of Alucard the Blimp begins to explode a falling beam kills The Doctor and Walter closes his eye and his body reverts to his old self as he says goodbye to Sera’s and Integral and is killed by the flames of the exploding blimp.
The two of them seem to share a bond dating from back in Warsaw, when the two were sent back by Arthur Hellsing to defeat Millennium. In fact it is Alucard that nick names Walter the Angel of Death due to his blood lust on the battle field. It appears at this time that they have succeeded in defeating the Nazi group. As Alucard is imprisoned it seems as if Walter has returned to his job as the Hellsing butler and personal body guard of the Hellsing leader. In fact it was all a lie. We find out in issue 9 that Walter had in fact made a deal with millennium, he wished to face Alucard in battle and millennium gave him that option. So he betrayed Hellsing and began his fight with Alucard.
During the fight we find out many things about the two of them, Walter is now a vampire with great skill, Cutting buildings in two with ease, he fight Alucard toe to toe and reveals how he is much like Anderson in his bloodlust and willing to do anything to win.
Walter is perhaps the nicest person to Seras when she first arrives at the Hellsing Manor, He later helps in her training and gives advice on how to deal with problems that face her. The two seem to share a strong bond as teacher and pupil but also as friends. When it becomes clear that Walter is a traitor and the initial shock is over. Sears turns to Walter before she goes to face the rest of millennium and thanks him for all that he has done for her up until this moment. With a small smile he replies "Look after yourself", showing that even now the two will always share that bond of friendship even when he had betrayed everything that they had worked for, just so he could fight her master.
As Walter dies in the flames of a fallen millennium blimp, Seras feels him passing and wishes him all the best as the flames consume his soul.
The relationship between the two seem to be very deep, Not only is Walter her butler but also a close advisor and friend. Walter was in the service of Integrals father and was missing at the time of his death. We later find out this was all a plan by Walter to free Alucard and to set in motion Millenniums plans.
Walter and Millennium have a relation; as much is undoubtable. However, there is severe dispute as to whether Walter served Millennium of his own volition or whether he was somehow conditioned during his Warsaw foray against Millennium in 1944; there is proof to both sides, such as Walter's aggressiveness against the Captain, the sadism against Jan Valentine, the Major's remark, or the fact the Valentines knew where to attack, the Doctor's destruction of the Jackal, the transformed Walter's attitude. As Hellsing: The Dawn is currently incomplete, it is impossible to accurately determine Walter's true allegiances until the remaining chapters are unveiled.
|Human Form: Street level+; Walter's wires can reach across a long hallway and seemingly be able to stretch across an entire floor|
Multi-Skyscraper+/City block level+; In his vampiric form, he can casually cut skyscrapers down in half plus his wires can cover at least a city block if not multiple city blocks
|Strength||Superhuman; As a human, he was able to snap a long table with food dishes on it with a single kick and was able to overpower The Captain with a single headbutt to the face while being wounded; As a vampire, he can easily rip humans apart. His strength is presumably at least in the several tons area due to Walter using his strength as support for his extended sharp wires to cut right through large buildings, he can also lift, throw, and guide Luke Valentine who was attached to half of a giant hellhound with such force that Luke appeared as a glint of light to Alucard in his strongest form while tagging across several buildings and while Walter was in a weakened state and had to fight back body malfunctions|
|Durability||Human: Superhuman; Wall level+ (Walter can tank solid punches from The Captain to the face and gut and recover very quickly whereas The Captain in human form can break through steel and concrete )|
Vampire: Superhuman; Wall level+ (Walter's durability is presumably restored, he can survive falls from high heights without injury and can tank a punch to the face by Alucard and recover almost instantly, he can take several high caliber sniper bullets fired by marksman Heinkel Wolfe in which one of them pierced his eye and presumably through his skull/brain, he can also fight back body corruptions in which his body was melting and breaking apart)
|Speed||Hypersonic+ (In old age, Walter can casually dodge and blitz through bullets from assasult rifles while in an obstacle-free narrow hallway and appear as a blur to a vampire with supersonic+ reactions and enhanced senses, can dodge bullets fired by Nazi soldiers at very close range while as a kid, can keep up with several bloodlusted supersonic+ vampires using his wires; As a vampire, he can keep up with and move at equal footing with Alucard in his strongest form whereas Alexander Anderson with the Nail was easily blitzed by Alucard in that form)|
|Reactions||Hypersonic+; Human Walter can easily dodge and keep track of automatic gunfire without a single scratch on his clothes, react to bullets fired by human soldiers from a few feet away, stopped and sliced off the hand of a vampire who already had a gun pointing a few feet from Integra before he could pull the trigger, and can easily react to and intercept supersonic vampires; Vampire Walter can react to Alucard in his "Count" form ,whereas Anderson in his strongest form could not and died as a result, and even intercept him|
|Stamina||Superhuman; Human Walter can battle The Captain who was ordered to kill Walter for a considerable amount of time and holds his own while recovering from injuries that would kill any normal human, Elder Walter could outrun bullets and kill a large portion of the armored ghoul army without breaking a sweat, and took out a squad of vampires without moving from his position; Vampire Walter can fight Alucard in his strongest form for a good amount of time (or at least much longer than Nail of Helena Anderson could) without tiring until his body started to fail|
|Abilities||Super strength, speed, accuracy, reflexes, durability, dexterity, senses; excellent acrobatic prowess, low-level regeneration, immortality (agelessness), wields razor sharp microfilament wires that can cut through steel and concrete with no difficulty|
|Intelligence||Very strategic, cunning, and knowledgable; has decades of combat experience especially against the undead and threats to England, is an adept butler and has skill in administration, was the one who devised a plan to counter the sudden hellsing invasion, is very skilled in espionage|
