Walpurgis Night

Origin

Most of everything about the Walpurgis Night's origin and her minions are a complete and utter mystery, including her real name. However, many magical girls have often referred to her as "Walpurgis Night" and the only clear thing about the witch was that she happens to be merged from an immense amount of witches into an giant constructing stage. If she isn't defeated after a certain amount of time, she will destroy Mitakihara as well as the rest of the world.

Creation

The Walpurgis Night was vaguely revealed with no idenity on Episode 1 of Aniplex's Puella Magi Madoka Magica up until her referred name and history was revealed in Episode 10. She was named after the central European holiday of the same name on the night between April 30th and May 1st where the locals hold bonfire parties. In German folklore, "Walpurgisnacht" was known as the day where a meeting of a group of sorcerers and witches is supposed to take place.
