Ichiko falls sick one day and Momiji considers taking advantage of it by inviting all of her annoying friends over. However, Keita shows up and tries to make Ichiko swallow her pride for one day so he can help her get better.
A goddess of fortune, Tanpopo, is dispatched to the human world to finish what Momiji has been failing to do: steal Ichiko's "happiness energy." However, her handler Konjikihime remarks that Tanpopo's method of attack is not to fight the target directly, but instead deal with their friends and loved ones first.
Tanpopo appears in front of the Tsuwabuki household with a "screeching owl" fortune item that appears to bring great luck to Keita. A rich man crashes his car into their house, but after Keita saves him the man allows his family to stay at his mansion with a full staff of maids. Later they decide to throw a party where all of Keita's classmates show up to have fun, including Ichiko and her friends.
However, Keita and then Momiji both suspect that there is a downside to this miracle. Momiji ends up discovering Tanpopo's hands in this act, and reveals that the fortune item gives them 10-20 years of good luck in an instant, but then gives them twice that much bad luck after it wears off. When Keita's youngest brother ends up getting hit by a motorcycle, Tanpopo uses it as an ultimatum to make Ichiko come with her to the world of the kami.
