As Ganta is put into the G-Ward with all the other deadman, he finds that life under the prison is worse than life above it. With new battles and old memories, he finds life continues to degrade for him in Deadman Wonderland. However, a glimmer of hope does emerge when he finds that there is a group of people willing to show that they are still good in a sea of evil.
Minatsuki examines her flowers as Yo wanders aimlessly through the lower parts of Deadman Wonderland. As well as being exhausted, he is traumatized as to what he witnessed Shiro did. He vows to find his sister as he treks through to the G-Ward. Ganta tries to forget the whole aspect of Carnival Corpse and what happened to Senji as he hears a commotion outside his room. He sees Minatsuki being harassed by Itadaki who wants to eat her flowers. Ganta offers his lunch as he flees with Minatsuki to her room, which is full of flowers. She wonders what is wrong with him as he expresses his frustrations about Deadman Wonderland. Minatsuki confides in her hatred for the prison too as she cries into his shoulder.
After experiencing an awkward moment, the two continue talking. Minatsuki says that her brother was put in the prison and that she has known about her abilities as a deadman since she was a child. She also shows him scars she has, stating that her father abused her and her brother would stick up for her. However, she claims she killed her father when he tried to rape her. Ganta vows that he will look out for her and protect her. Meanwhile, Yo is able to knock out a guard and takes his clothes. Ganta and Minatsuki try to flee but a bunch of debris falls on top of them, Ganta pushing Minatsuki out of harms way. A group of guards investigate and bring the two back to their cells, stating that the Carnival Corpse tomorrow will put the two to fight one another.
The Director of the prison and Tamaki butt heads as the Director states that this is his bird cage and not Tamaki's wonderland. Tamaki begs to differ as he chastises the Director, piercing the breathing tube he is using. As the Carnival Corpse starts up, it is shown that Chaplin is the announcer for the evening as the match will be a best of three. Ganta vows that he will not hurt Minatsuki as the match starts up. However, Minatsuki proves to have a different plan in mind as she uses her branch of sin to attack and slice up Ganta.
Minatsuki reveals that she finds Ganta's chivalrous attitude to be disgusting and claims she is turned on by his bewilderment. She also goes on to state that everything she told him was a lie so that he would be taken by surprise. She attacks him brutally, mocking him, stating that she is horny from getting the upper hand and finds Ganta to be a pig. Ganta attacks her but a cry from the audience shows Yo showing up at the ring, demanding to know what is going on between him and his sister.
Minatsuki recalls the first day she became a liar during the day of the Great Tokyo Earthquake in regards to her mother. Ganta is stunned to see that Yo is her brother as Minatsuki tried to gloss over the situation. Tamaki and the audience are a bit stunned by this sudden interruption/reunion by the siblings. Ganta tries to tell Yo what is going on but Minatsuki trips him, reminding him about the situation. She lies to Yo, making the situation to be different as Yo tells her that he came for him. Minatsuki inwards cries out in joy as she thinks of her brother as a fool. Ganta goes in to attack but Yo jumps in between him and his sister. Minatsuki is elated as things are going the way she wanted.
However, Yo tells her that he knows everything is a lie and that she is a sociopath. Despite all that she has done, he will do everything to protest her. Minatsuki flips out as she claims that Yo has ruined all of her plans and dreams. Yo tries to console her as she captures him with her whip hair, lashing out at him as she is willing to kill all that stand between her and her desires. Ganta says not to hurt him as they are friends but Minatsuki laughs, saying that her brother is untrustworthy and steals. Ganta realizes that Yo stole his candy intentionally that first day and tries to ignore that. Minatsuki continues to lash at him with her whip while holding on to Yo.
Ganta barely crawls back to his corner as someone gives him support. He sees that Senji has recovered from his injuries and is there to offer him support in his corner. Senji says that he needs to think smartly with his Ganta Gun as he needs to remember that all the attacks are coming from one direction. Ganta solely thinks about Yo's safety as Senji tells him that its the duty of someone who beats him to win. Ganta tries to get back into the game as he starts to fire his bullets at Minatsuki, missing a few times. She claims that she will lay waste to him and isn't worth it like her mother. Yo wonders if she did the same thing as Minatsuki reveals that her mother abandoned her during the earthquake.
Ganta is able to get an accurate shot as he was testing out the angles of the corners, able to knock a shot from the corner post and cutting her hair and shortening the range of her whip. She goes after Ganta after releasing Yo, tying him in close range. He chides her as he head butts her, knocking her out. The audience yells as they want blood, demanding he kill her. Instead, he flips them off and tells off Tamaki. Ganta is declared the winner of the match up as the Director watches silently with his twin bodyguards. They tell Shiro that Ganta won as she sleeps, talking about the Lullaby once more. Minatsuki recovers in the med bay as Yo talks about what happened after the earthquake. Another earthquake rattles the G-Ward as Minatsuki has a flashback of how her mother abandoned her in the earthquake. Yo and Ganta save her, earning her trust. The earthquake triggers a memory as he remembers that he and Shiro were childhood friends.
As Ganta regains his memories of his experiences with Shiro as a child, Shiro confronts the Director as he claims to have brought her a snack. Shiro coldly states that they aren't always the same person, indicating she has a split personality. She also reveals that she has the powers of a deadman and that the Director is also a deadman as the two ready themselves to fight. It is shown that the Red Man is also in the room. Ganta, Yo, and Minatsuki are trying to assess just what happened during the earthquake as guards tell them to head back to their rooms. Senji has a different plan as he congratulates Ganta on his victory, demanding that he buy them lunch. Senji commends Ganta for his performance in the fight but reminds him that winning the Carnival Corpse so many times can garner him unwanted attention as someone looks on from the shadows.
Upstairs, Makina finds herself locked out of several incident reports via the computer as she states that the prison needs to be upheld and how their are being hampered from doing their job. She acknowledges that Tamaki is probably behind the series of blocks. Tamaki and Rei discuss the earthquake as Rei reveals some interesting information that she found out about the red stone embedded in Ganta's chest. They discuss how the red stone in his chest is identical to stones found around Tokyo after the Earthquake and they are related to the Wretched Egg, the Red Man. Tamakii enjoys this information as he wants to see if they can replicate deadmen from this information, hoping the director dies soon in order to get control of the park.
Minatsuki kicks Yo out of her room as he and Ganta decide to get some more medicine for the prisoners as Ganta tells him about how he and Shiro were friends growing up and that she lived in the medical facility his mother worked in. He always tried to console her due to the fact that she was constantly being experimented on, stating that the superhero Aceman would save her. Shiro tells him off as Ganta mopes about, almost getting attacked by a rabid dog. Shiro, jumping from a high window, displays her superhuman strength as the two make up. Yo tries to tell Ganta about what he saw but he sees how happy Ganta is and leaves ill, the woman in the cloak passing him by.
Upstairs, Shiro can hear a melody as she states that the Mother Goose system is back online. The director's body lays scattered across the floor, stating how the Goose system was made for Shiro. It is shown that under Shiro's body suit that there are numerous scars and stitchings, looking like something akin to Frankenstein. She approaches the Red Man but in the dust, its just a suit as the Director claims that Shiro is the Wretched Egg, the Red Man that killed Ganta's classmates and brought him to prison as she smirks.

Well hello and welcome again, I M have returned with another installment of my grand quest to review all of Deadman wonderland there is to explore, and this quest stops for no man, podcast finished and uploaded my quest returns and I set my sights on Volume 3. Now let’s rip this up and see what’s inside this next volume.
Dead man wonderland volume three continues the series of carnival displays in the forms of fights to the death this time with the Hummingbird, a seemingly sweet and innocent little girl with a tendency for the ferocious. It also goes into some other stuff with shiro and her past, and a bit more awkwardly out of nowhere story beats at the end however for the most part this volume focuses on the fight between woodpecker and the hummingbird.
From the get go my main complain with deadman has been its inability to stay to one thing for too long before like a schizophrenic child after a mouse. It always seems to lose focus and forget what it was even about before it was too long which made volume three particularly nice that it took its time with the carnival corpse even if it does end with a plot shift alluded to it still remained focused on the dealings at hand. Also giving your best characters (Crow and Shiro) quiet a lot of screen time helps definitely.
The negatives are mostly the same, the hummingbird is to say it conservatively, silly, when it comes to the attempt and being mature, often lewd and cursey to try to make her seem edgy, but that could all be the translation, but I’m not buying it, the main attraction of this event isn’t that pleasing but that surprisingly isn’t that much of a negative when everything else manages t keep it together.
All in all the candy is still sweet in volume three of deadman, but I can definitely see where things could get much better or worse, however that’s yet to surface. Dead man continues to be an enjoyable 4 blood whips out of 5 but unless it starts picking up deadman is going to start to sink, but for now they can celebrate. That’s all for today’s carnival folks, hope you enjoy the ride just as much as me.
