Voltron’s managed to blast his thrusters and get off the ground (and far, far up into space!) thousands of times, but the big mecha with the five color-coordinated pilots is having the hardest time getting his own movie off the ground. ICv2 reports that World Event Productions, the company behind the proposed movie, is pulling a total tabula rasa. The working script’s been dropped, along with its rewrite, and the director who’d been with the project for years, Max Makowski, has walked away. The VOLTRON movie seems to be suffering from a curse as treacherous as any intergalactic monster, as this fall-out is the latest of several misfortunes the potential movie suffered (the last of which was a lawsuit).
Despite these setbacks, the company’s still moving ahead on bringing Voltron back into the popular consciousness. VOLTRON FORCE will air soon on NickToons and featured a larger, more racially-diverse outfit battling old foes from the classic cartoon. Don’t be confused if you’re wondering if this is a new show unrelated to the previously-announced VOLTRON PANTHERA FORCE. It is, in fact, the same show with a different title. The marketing maestros just decided to axe the "Panthera" portion of the title.
