Nothing like a picture caught mid-assembly.
Nothing like a picture caught mid-assembly.

The oft-rumored, oft-delayed VOLTRON movie might be having a hell of a time launching off-ground - - as you’ve seen again, and again, and again - - but these production drawings from Joblo evidence that there’s at least a pretty passionate push to progress this project. Atlas Entertainment, who's produced a diverse slate of films including 12 MONKEYS, THE BANK JOB and SEASON OF THE WITCH, is the latest company to take a swing at this. For scripting duties, they’ve brought on Thomas Donnely and Joshua Oppenheimer, the writing duo behind the upcoming adaptations of CONAN, DR. STRANGE and the UNCHARTED games.

Here are the other two pics...

Will this happen? Won’t it? It’s hard to say, because it seems like talks about this movies have abounded for years, now. I’d imagine that, in the wake of the absurd success of TRANSFORMERS, giant robot movies would be "in." It'd be kind-of a crying shame if the only super sentai group to got their shot at the big screen would remain the Power Rangers. I’ve been a little skeptical about how mecha action would look in live action - - I've grown up on fumbling Zords battling rubber monsters in plywood cityscapes - - but I have to say these pics look four kinds of bad ass. I'm a lot more interested in seeing this, now.

Do you Anime Vice lunatics concur? Do these pics impress? Would you want to see a Voltron cartoon? Or is it best left as is, in all its pristine anime purity?

That first image makes it look like someone is not a fan of the Statue of Liberty.

@newave: What do you object to?

@Tom_Pinchuk:  not a fan of the skeletal lions. the mech designs resemble the train wreck of a movie that was transformers.  i would much rather that they don't even do this movie. if it is going to stay so far from the original source material.

I agree if its going to look like that and not follow the story i won't watch it lol.
@Tom_Pinchuk: Errrr.... A Super Sentai series gets 2 movies a year 1, the actual movie (20+min) and 2, A feature length team up :P

if they are setting it in modern day new york city then the only scenario i can see working is a gi-joe type angle with a secret government agency called voltron force who fight an alien invasion or something.

if its something like that then please god let this project fail

Concept art always looks great. But never anything to get too excited over.

I loved Voltron as a child but I think sucks now.  Anyways, I'd see this movie day one.  I didn't think either Transformers movies were great but I had a fun time overall when I watched them.  If they could do that for Voltron then I'd be into it.

I feel like Statue of Liberty "harassment" is surfacing  a lot in different kinds of media these days. You can practically blow it up in this one RTS game entitled "World in Conflict" taking place in an alternate history where the USSR does not go broke by stretching its conventional military might.

Anyway, I'm intrigued with this concept art. It looks promising. Hopefully they follow it up with a solid trailer and you can consider me bought. I'm always looking for good cinematography in film these days - it's getting a little difficult to come by...

@Lemegeton300:  Supposedly, one of the scripts floating around has them fighting in a MAD MAX/ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK style dystopian future
