VIZ has announced its newest imprint, and it's reaching to one of Japan's classic quality stand-bys for its title: parent company Shogakukan''s Weekly Shounen Sunday (though VIZ will romanize it Shonen Sunday, and of course it won't be a “weekly”).
Shogakukan launched Shounen Sunday in 1959, and it's featured some of Japan's most well-known manga, including Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura and Ranma ½ (and Rinne), MAJOR, Osamu Tezuka's Dororo, Giant Robo, Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro...you get the idea.
Hey, speaking of Rumiko Takahashi's Rin-ne, its US tankobon release will be the first in the Shonen Sunday line. A few other series will move over: Hayate no Gotoku, InuYasha, Kekkaishi, Case Closed, and Yakitate!! Japan.
The site for Shonen Sunday will launch at ShonenSunday.com on July 22nd, right at the start of San Diego Comic Con. We're told the site will feature “previews, trailers, news, and interviews.”
