 I found it kind of amusing that one Equality Now member is quoted as saying that the game has "no place on the market," specifically using a term about sales, and yet the whole point of the article is that there is a significant "market" that's downloading the game.    

Although I don't support a banning policy myself, I think you're not quite grasping the implications of the term "market" as it is used in this context. The Equality Now representative was speaking about values - about what we as a society are willing to accept as part of our economy - not about whether a certain product attracts demand or not. The market is a man-made institution, not a natural law, and thus it makes perfect sense to talk about something not having "a place on the market" even though the product in question would sell a shitload of copies if it did.

market is where you sell stuff, in both physical or metaphysical concept, in a market there's consumer and producer, if there's a buyer  which means it is accepted as the part of the economy then it has a market

 That "virus" isn't really a virus. If I remember right, it was the game company itself that put out the fake torrent.
