History
Little is known of Viral's history prior to the events of Gurren Lagann. He first appears when he and Kamina both shoot the same animal, and the two fight. Viral reappears several times throughout the Gurren-dan's battle against the beastmen, working for two of the four Divine Generals and fighting in the final battle. After the humans defeat the Beastmen, Viral becomes a renegade (or, as Simon's government proclaims him, a terrorist) along with a team of other beastmen who remain-- clearly a role meant to be compared to Kamina's as the leader of the Gurren-dan fighting against the then-ruling class of beastmen.When the Anti-Spirals threaten the earth, however, Viral joins Simon's team to fight for both humans and beastmen. After the Anti-Spirals are defeated, the immortal Viral joins the Spiral Peace Conference.
Personality
Much like Kamina, Viral is always ready for battle and gives it his all, making him a repeatedly significant opponent. He also has similar views on honor and the proper way to do battle. Viral shows a distaste for humans throughout the series, until he joins them at the end. Fans speculate that he may at one point have had a crush on or been a lover of General Adiane; this is fueled by the fact that he fights for her obsequiously in spite of her abusing him constantly.In the final episodes of the animé, we see that Viral's dream is to have his own family, because being a Beastman, he is sterile. However, Simon brings him back from the alternate reality to confront the Anti-Spiral. In the epilogue, he is the Captain of the Dai-Gurren, being an ambassador to other spiral planets.
