Utena Tenjou is the main character is the anime and manga series Revolutionary GIrl Utena. She attends the elite Ohtori Academy. There she becomes involved in battle for the Rose Bride. She is an expert dualist and succeeds in protecting the Rose Bride.
Personality
Utena is considered a tomboy. She wears the male school uniform. Her heart's desire is to become strong like the prince from her childhood. She embodies both masculine and feminine characteristics; in a way, she becomes the perfect merging of the two. She is independent and strong-willed. Yet, she is greatly compassionate. She is different from the other duellists because she actually sees Anthy, the Rose Bride, as a human being not a tool to be used to gain her heart's desire. She develops a close relationship with Anthy that definitely borders on romantic. When she duels, Utena is always seeking to protect Anthy from physical and emotional harm--which she might suffer should one of the other duellists gain control over her. Either Utena ignores the fact that her relationship with Anthy gives her access to such great power, or she is unaware of it. Regardless, she is viewed as a noble warrior and worthy opponent.
