An Unfamiliar Ceiling - 見知らぬ、天井 (Mishiranu, tenjō)
In this unfamiliar city, surrounded by unfamiliar people, and looking up at an unfamiliar ceiling. Shinji Ikari has lived and survived the terrors of the Angels to fight again. The boy who was unwanted by his father is taken in by the energetic Misato Katsuragi to be her new room mate. Today is the first day of a very peculiar life in Tokyo-3.
Summary
The battle between Eva-01/Shinji and the Angel begins. Shinji succeeds at getting the Eva to step forward but then stumbles and panics. His fear rises when the angel attacks him and because he is 'linked' to the Eva he experiences the pain that the Eva would.
The Angel uses a pulse-like attack on the Eva's right eye socket and servers the connection between the Eva and Shinji.
Suddenly Shinji awakens in a hospital where he is collected and congratulated by Misato. When she learns he is to live alone she gets permission to have him move in with her.
She takes him to a hill with a good view of the city and shows him the Tokyo-3 settlement buildings re-emerging from the Geo-Front and declares that he should be happy, he saved the city.
Shinji moves into Misato's hilariously dirty apartment, where he is suprised to meet Pen Pen, a warm-water Penguin.
After nakedly confronting Misato about Pen Pen Shinji goes to bed where he thinks about the rest of the frightful battle with the Angel.
We see that after the angel severed the connection between Shinji and Eva-01, Eva-01 went 'beserk', attacking and easily defeating the Angel of it's own accord.
