These manga is the journey of an anti-hero. The character is not only driven by a selfish motivation and using antihetical means, it also looks anti-heroic with a silly half-elf body. The asthetics of a childish boy with cute pointy ears, scars and the eyes of an assasin define the dissonant tone of the series. Looking like a faery tale for kids but playing with sex and violence in a similar fashion to Gunslinger girl. It can be just an average comedy with a wandering vigilant mocking the cliche of the "knight in shining armor" of the faery tales and trying to look gritty for adults; but what make these work worth a second look is the focuse on the corruption. Not the corruption of the flesh by the taint of demons that looks really terrific in Berseker or Claymore, but the corruption of the soul. The popularity of works like Berserk or Gantz is mostly the visual artwork depicting violence and sex, there is a dark beauty on the brutality and cruelty on the action. The popularity of works like Gunslinger girl and Ubel Blatt comes mostly from the driven motives of the characters, the action of sex and violence is rather mild, the beauty is on watch what is going on on the mind of the characters. The theme of Gunslinger girl and Ubel Blatt is in brutal words, the "rape of innonce", the dark atraction is more subtle. If you just are looking for a lot of violence and sex, with a cool character that can eat demons for breackfast every morning, most likely you are not going to like these one. If you like something different and/or enjoy inner conflicts maybe you can give it a try.
