If you really want to see a good love story about vampires just watch ether of these shows. They where so above and beyond any thing this shit has to offer that i actually feel dirty for even mentioning them in the same breath as this crap.

...Not sure how that wound up getting age-gated; sorry about that!

@crusader8463: We were just talking about how "there's never a downside to being a vampire anymore" in so much of this fiction, but I brought up Whedon's vampires-- at least they get ugly. (And if you happen to be given back your soul, you get all angsty about how many people you've killed and how you want to drink their blood. Yay!)

@gia: Not to mention the whole going to hell where you are burned alive and tortured for all eternity thing, or the when you become a vampire you stop being you and literally become a mindless killing machine that only cares about nom noming people. Plus, unless you where a vampire made before the early 1900's, you pretty much had a life expectancy of a few years what with all the vampire slayers and vampire vampire slayers.

If you ever read some of the comics after Buffy ended the world became a bad place to be a vampire. They had a huge vampire slayer organization with hundreds of slayers all around the world slaying vampires. Lots of draw backs to begin a vampire in that universe if you're name isn't Angle, Spike or had stuck you're penis in Buffy at one point. Though she did become a lesbian/bi-sexual in the comic, so that last bit was kind of hard to do. No pun intended.

I watched the Twilight movie... and yes the sex metaphor is totally with the eating her...

Question was this based on the whole book? or just part of it?
Nice Inuyasha comparison.... you are totally right!

@sora_thekey: We both read the entire (first) book.

Dude, that totally says "SHIFF."

On a side note, maybe you guys could start changing the wall of posters where you guys sit and record.  James Rolfe aka The Angry Video Game Nerd changes his posters on his wall from time to time to change it up and I really liked it.  After some time the posters on the wall will burn an image inside my mind and it will never be the same again.  Could you guys maybe do that or is it to much work?

@gia: What I meant was... Is the Twilight Manga based on the whole Twilight Chapter book?

@JJOR64: Dude, come on, we've only even been using that backdrop for like, two weeks. How many posters do you think I have?!

...Actually, it's funny you mention that-- I just got a batch of posters from this month's anime mags and was planning to replace one or two of 'em. :)

@sora_thekey: It's based on the first novel-- I think it covers something like the first half.

Ok, simple request. Since you don't like the "Everyone loves the transfer student" can you please, for the love of all that is holy, hate on that in anime also? Or is it just another "Lets find things to bitch about in Twilight" topic?
Post by LunaVivian (4 posts) See mini bio Level 1
well i would have to say that that is an H and not a N(n)

@Rangoric:  Honestly, it was less the "everyone loves the transfer student" thing that I was complaining about, and more the "let's just say that the girl is really plain and awkward, even though everybody in our book either likes her or is in love with her" thing. It's a Mary Sue trait that shows up a LOT. The authors want to reach out to young girls who generally feel awkward and unattractive, but they also want the girls to want to be the characters they create, so it's hard to make them ACTUALLY awkward and unattractive. Sort of a catch-22 with a side of hypocrisy.

As for transfer students...I don't watch a lot of the anime that has that particular trope in it, honestly. Like...the first thing that comes to my mind is Azumanga Daioh, which makes fun of "everyone loves the transfer student" more than anything. Then I thought of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which also mocks the concept. I tried to think of other anime I've even watched that featured a transfer student. Most of the ones I think of are comedies and wind up making fun of the transfer student more than anything o_o

I guess Durarara has one kind of, but he's never depicted as being particularly popular in school. Hm. I'll have to think about this!

I kind of want John to talk about Cactuars for 10 minutes instead. Something about mischeveous cactus monsters appeals to me more than a graphic novel based on a fantasy romance series of novels aimed at teenage girls and from having red some of the first one written by a teenage girl as well.
