If Vash is Robin Hood, I suppose that makes Wolfwood Little John?
If Vash is Robin Hood, I suppose that makes Wolfwood Little John?

Ahhhh… the ironies that define Vash the stampede. He’s a highly-trained killer who adamantly refuses to take a life. He’s a celebrity who can’t get a date. He’s a handsome hero who’s so oblivious to pretty ladies’ come-ons, he needs little kids to help him get a girlfriend.   He isn’t a humanoid typhoon… he’s a walking contradiction. And I suppose Wolfwood is, too: but a pistol-packing is probably less obviously contradictory following the EL MARIACHI movies, isn't it?

Something tells me that whoever came up with the plot for this episode - - whether it was mangaka or the anime staff - - must’ve been watching ROBIN HOOD some time during the creative process. Given how tight these communities can be, I’d wager that they watched the Disney version - - you know, the one with the fox. Heroes participating in an invitational marksmanship tournament (one where their identities are revealed by their skills) immediately calls that to mind for me. I usually groan about parallels to oft-referenced literature, but this actually felt pretty fresh. It’s certainly digging deeper than having him, say, make him a point about robbing from the rich to give to the poor.

Speaking of which... if the big double-dollars bounty is going to continue to be such a McGuffin, I wonder how long it’ll be before Vash pulls a stunt wherein Wolfwood or the insurance girls turn him in, just so they can collect the bounty and split it. It’d pretty much be a given that he could break himself out of whatever cell they put him, right? The dude can draw fast enough to keep an egg from falling, for Pete’s sake!

Watch this episode, “Quick Draw,” below and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

I couldn't keep your pace Tom. I've already finished hahaha. After watching it again for the first time in a while, the episodes really don't get really "deep" until near the end. Although you start getting some of it soon.

This episode is great through. I love how Vash signs Wolfwood up and had no idea the final rounds were duals.

Vash and Wolfwood really were such schmucks in this episode. Each trying to make time with the lovely lady, but get nowhere in the end because her husband finally comes back once everything is fine.
I can relate to that. There was a girl I liked. Though she had a boyfriend at the time, I still agreed to help her paint her new place and move stuff.  Hours and days of just me and her painting her place. Talking and having a good time. Often hearing her on her cell to friends complaining how her boyfriend wasn't helping. I repaired all the things that he broke of her's that he did move into the house. On the last day of the move, we were carrying in packages and clothes. The useless boyfriend was there just sitting on the couch watching TV the whole time, and she didn't say anything. I realized that day the depths of my schmuck-hood.

On the other hand, I wouldn't let any lady brow beat me the way Meryl did at the start. That's girlfriend privileges right there, and if you aren't getting boyfriend privileges. Don't put up with it.

Something I never quite understood about Wolfwood's cross. Why is it just a series of the same gun? Wouldn't ammo clips for the same two guns of been more effective and take as much time? Though, that gets cleared up later.

I liked the Disney Robinhood with the fox, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who reads my profile name. I like foxes.
I would actually disagree with you about characters mimicking literary classics. I like that. It's one of the things about the anime Okamisan that I enjoyed. The way the stories would each mimic a classic fairy-tale, but how it comes to the finale is so off the wall and clever.

Comics are filled with walking contradictions. Vigilante crime fighters, when being a vigilante is a crime. Vampires who hunt other vampires. The list could go on.

Episode 12 coming up is one of my favorites in this series.

One of the funny differences of the manga is that they lift his bounty in the very beginning. The insurance girls say that he's now on the level of a hurricane or an actual typhoon and you can't actually cash in a bounty on a natural disaster.

Also, one thing that bothered me about this episode is how Vash would change the trajectory of the bullets by throwing rocks... it seemed slightly to unrealistic... even for this show. Ignoring the mystery of whether or not he could actually do that, wouldn't a rock traveling so fast that you can't even see it be deadly enough to rip someones arm off? It's just one of those things I can't help think too far into.

I still enjoy this episode but it's definitely on the "filler" side. I don't think I've miss-heard them but it seems gallons and dallons, which is funny that they'd even bother changing that for this fiction.

I think he was hitting the gun or the arm to throw off the accuracy slightly, because they bullets still hit the target, just not a vital hit.

The real lesson is that you should've wrecked him, right there.

Really? See that would actually make sense.

Or maybe he's just that good.

As a rule, I stay out of people's relationships. It only leads to trouble to tamper. More so since I had an ulterior motive. I thought that I could show her I'm a nice guy, multi-talented, and dependable.

By the by, THIS is that friend. Known her since the 4th grade.

I think my first little story shows how little I'm qualified to give out advice. lol Considering I did all the work on my friend's house, and he got all of the "benefits"(innuendo). Though, she bought me my PS2(refurbished) as a thanks for the help. So, I got a gaming system, and she got her useless boyfriend.

@Tom_Pinchuk:
I know. lol She often just hands me DVD and magazines she's done.

She only did the dub voice for that one hentai anime. I considered asking her to do an interview for Anime Vice, but she really knows nothing about manga or anime, and I don't think she would even ever do another one.

No huge deal. I like dark-haired girls more.
