Overview
On the distant planet of Cybertron, a war has been waged for thousands of years between two factions of living robots, the heroic Autobots and the malevolent Decepticons. This war has depleted Cybertron's most valued resource, the substance known as Energon, which is both a fuel for cybertronian ships and technology and for the Cybertronians themselves.In an effort to gain an edge in the war, the Decepticon leader Megatron leaves Cybertron along with some of his deadliest soldiers in order to find sources of Energon off-world, but the Autobots led by Optimus Prime discover this plan and pursue the Decepticons to primitive Earth.
The raw energon of Earth is too strong however and the Autobots and Decepticons alike are forced to go into stasis, where they remained for eons, until finally being awoken in the 1980's where they took new alt-modes based on human vehicles and technology.
