It won’t come as much of a surprise to announce that Hasbro debuted MANY new TRANSFORMERS action figures at their 2010 Collector-Fan Media Day last weekend. Seibertron.com has extensive coverage of the event and all the products, so I'll keep it to a choice sampling of G1 revamps and movie tie-ins for you.
First up is Battle Blades Optimus Prime. The flame decals and twisted corporal machinery might tip you off that this is based, of course, on the version of Prime from last summer's REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. It might be cool if the toy came with a plug-in feature that allow you the heat up the blades like soldering irons, but I'm sure that would have a lot of inherent liabilities for Hasbro.Second with a ROAR! is everybody's favorite Dino-Bot, Grimlock. Part of the Masterpiece series, this appears to be a reissuing of one of the T-Rex robot's earlier toys. It'd be cool to see this lovable cyber-lizard in TRANSFORMERS 3 - - whenever it comes - - with his grossly improper grammar and all.
Lastly, we have two sets from the Powercore Combiners line. On one side, you have Rallybots, and on the other, you've got the Destructicons. Truth be told, seeing these ten cars together, the first thing that popped into my mind was "DEMOLITION DERBY." And if I ever did get a hold of them, I'd be putting them through just that in my bathtub for about three hours of playtime.
There. That's just a taste of what came out of the Media Day. Do you like what you see? What classic figures would you like to see get re-issued. And, this last one goes out to the hardest of hardcore TF fans - - has there ever been an Autobot or a Decepticon who turned into a Honda Civic?
