Originally a 1984 maze game, the series has since branched out into RPGs (including an MMO) and an anime adaptation.
The main character of the Druaga series is Gil (pronounced jil), who must battle his way through an enormous tower to rescue the princess, Ki (pronounced kai). After the first game, Gil and Ki continue to battle through the tower, this time with Ki in a more active role. There's even a prequel game, The Quest of Ki, a platformer in which Ki jumps and dashes her way past enemies to reach the higher floors of the tower. The 2008 anime adaptation of the game, created by Gonzo, is notable largely for being one of the two series that Gonzo released simultaneously in Japan and the US with English subtitles. It also has an odd first episode due to airing the day after April Fool's Day; the entire episode is a parody of fantasy RPGs and takes place largely in a dream Gil has.
