Totoro

Origin

When two daughter of a scientest were outside playing one day, Mei saw two large white ears under the house. When she went to go investigate, she discovered a large spirit and when it roared, she interprets it as "Totoro." Later, her father would identify him as the "keeper of the forest." 

Creation

First appearence in the 1988 production of "Tonari no Totoro" which was written by Hayao Miyazaki.
