Toshimi and Misuzu: Best Friends

Toshimi Niki is the long time friend of Misuzu Ichijou and they were hardly ever apart. The traditional Best Friend Forever and both attended Fujimi High School in Tokonosu Prefecture.

Creation

Highschool of the Dead Vol. 1 JPN (2007)

The character of Toshimi Niki is a supporting character of the manga/anime series Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006.

Her first appearance was in Hightschool of the Dead Volume 1 CH. 1 "Spring of the Dead", and her first anime appearance was in Highschool of the Dead - Episode 1 "Spring of the Dead". Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Kaori Shimizu, and the U.S. dub produced by Section 23 is voiced by Luci Christian.

In the anime production of Highschool of the Dead, the hair colors of Toshimi and Misuzu were reversed. In the manga, Misuzi has the darker colored hair and Toshimi had the lighter color.

There was a minor translation error in the translation Volume 1 that was produced by Yen Press. In the back of Volume 1 is a photo of Toshimi and Misuzu in their happier days, and their names are written on the photo in hiragana. Toshimi's name was translated as "Tommi" in this photo. The hiragana is written as としみ (toshimi). The translator had mistaken the し (shi) for a small つ (tsu).

Misuzu Ichijou and Toshimi Niki swear to stick together

When the outbreak of Them ( zombies) overtook Fujimi High School, Toshimi stayed with her best friend, Misuzu, as they ran through the halls, hand-in-hand. Though Toshimi was unsure, Misuzu encouraged her that they'd survive since they were best friends. Suddenly, Tosimi was grabbed by one of Them and dragged down the staircase, clutching at her best friend's hand. As they were starting to eat her, the terrified Toshimi pleaded with Mizisu to save her.

Rather than any kind words to words of sympathy or a rescue attempt, Misuzu was demanding Toshimi let go of her, and she kicked Toshimi away in order to free herself. Toshimi was eaten alive, but Misuzu was caught moments later.
