Toradora! (とらドラ!) is a Japanese light novel series by Yuyuko Takemiya, with illustrations by Yasu. The series includes ten novels released between March 10, 2006 and March 10, 2009, published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. Three volumes of a spin-off light novel series was also created, aptly titled Toradora Spin-off!. A manga adaptation by Zekkyō started serialization in the September 2007 issue of the shōnen manga magazine Dengeki Comic Gao!, published by MediaWorks. The manga ended serialization in Dengeki Comic Gao! with the March 2008 issue, but continued serialization in ASCII Media Works' manga magazine Dengeki Daioh with the May 2008 issue.
An Internet radio show was broadcast between September 2008 and May 2009 hosted by Animate TV. A 25-episode anime adaptation produced by J.C.Staff aired in Japan on TV Tokyo between October 2008 and March 2009. A Blu-ray Disc box set containing an original video animation episode was released on December 21, 2011. NIS America licensed the anime and released it in North America in two half-season DVD collections in July and August 2010. A visual novel based on the series was released in April 2009 by Namco Bandai Games for the PlayStation Portable.
The title Toradora! is derived from the names of the two main characters Taiga Aisaka and Ryūji Takasu. Taiga sounds like tiger in English, and tiger in Japanese is tora (とら). Ryūji literally means son of dragon in Japanese, and a transcription of the English word dragon into Japanese is doragon (ドラゴン).
Takasu Ryuji starts his second year of high school with encouragement . However, there's one thing that he hates and it's his eyes inherited from his father (a Ganster) which have an innate ability to intimidate others, which causes misunderstandings among his classmates.
This changes the first day of school when Ryuji meets Aisaka Taiga, a very dangerous girl with whom he establishes a friendship as they help each other to overcome their fears and confess to their respective crushes.
Ryūji Takasu (高須 竜児, Takasu Ryūji) is the first charter that appears at the scene. He has a very normal life he has a pet a mother and goes to school everyday. Except for the fact that his pet is a sick parrot and his mother always stays out late. Every since he was a young boy he has always learned to do things on his own. He reminds his mother of her late husband which was a gang leader and always had a scary look on his face. So Ryuji got his looks from his dad even though he never as so much as hurt a fly at school classmates seem to avoid him. he has a couple of friends but the thought of everyone avoiding him always sets of a bad attitude.
Taiga Aisaka (逢坂 大河, Aisaka Taiga) is one of the most important of all the charters in this story because of how often she appears in the show and her popular look and personality. she is flat-chested small and has long hair but due to these appearances she is also short tempered and wild at times. Her nickname is Palmtop Tiger but due to her look she also has mixed feelings about love and often makes mistakes she regrets.
