Adult Swim is nothing if not direct.

If you needed anything spelt out, Toonami will be officially returning in just ten days, bringing Adult Swim air time up into its own unique corner of the cosmos on the night of Saturday, May 26nd. Seeing as how Toonami’s been away since ’08, one can only just picture TOM (not, not me - - the robot dude) coming back after a four-year-long, Goku-style exile wherein he was training continuously in the vacuum of space.

Some may be shocked, even flabbergasted, at this news… but it shouldn’t come as any surprise.

Adult Swim’s now-legendary broadcast of new Toonami content on April 1st now looks obviously less like a prank and more like a tease to test the proverbial waters. Considering how those waters rippled and rippled, with our pal Richie Branson’s rap about the subject igniting a #bringbacktoonami trend, it all looks rather inevitable in hindsight, now, doesn't it?

No programming’s been officially announced yet, but we’ll all find out soon enough. In the meantime, Richie’s provided a couple teases off his own on Twitter…

UPDATE -- According to an official press release relayed by the Futon Critic, this block will run from midnight to six in the morning and feature "original anime programming" in addition to series returning from previous iterations of Toonami.

Great, let's see how many fewer people care when Toonami shuts down this time. I loved Toonami 8 years ago, but its relevance on TV has left. I would be much more excited if Toonami was a new streaming service or if Cartoon Network cared enough to make it a daytime/primetime block again.

The lineup announcement is something I'm looking forward to almost as much as the birth of my own future child. Sure, it might just be the same shows they've played on Adult Swim recently, but even then it'll be sweet.

Between this and the Saint's Row The Third "Enter the Dominatrix" gag turned real, I wonder if April 1st is becoming a testing ground for unconventional releases.

As I said in another thread, I'll check it out for nostalgia's sake but I have no interest in making Toonami a regular habit again. Anime on TV is usually too edited for me to enjoy, plus there's the dub issue. Back when it was my only option it was tolerable, but there are easier, less restrictive ways to watch it these days. I tried to watch Naruto Shippuden on Disney XD and Dragon Ball Kai on NickToons and I was continually distracted by the noticeable editing of violence and questionable material. If those two shows get a heavy hatchet job, I can't imagine what would air unscathed. Hell, even something like PreCure has a ton of story lines and references to Japanese school life which always seems to get cut when localizing.

I'm so excited. I used to love Toonami, I hope they can keep it up well and stuff.

This is great news for the movement but I am curious to what shows will be airing. Some classics are fine but newer stuff would be better since I don't think SyFy or IFC air anime anymore. I'd love to see Black Lagoon on tv but it would be meaningless with how edited it would be-even Code Geass was edited somewhat.

Too bad I work Saturdays. Maybe I'll recorded just to see what they did to Tom.

Posted this on another blog, but my guess is that they will simply keep the same programming adult swim has on Saturdays at the moment but just have T.O.M. narrate in between instead of airing their typical bumps.

@zeroduality: Animenewsnetwork is reporting that they will be creating new content for the show as well as bringing back former members of the Toonami lineup. Though I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are part of the new group.

The lineup is currently on ANN and it's basically the exact same shows they currently show... some of them were shows I watched on Adult Swim way back in my freshman college year in 2001.

Cartoon Network will be showing anime from 12:01 am Sunday to 6am Sunday and calling it Toonami. Cartoon Network currently airs anime from 12:01 am Sunday to 6am Sunday and calls it Adult Swim. Both blocks have the same content. I don't get what makes this so awesome. Isn't it just business as usual?

Interesting to see where Cartoon Network is going now with bring back Toonami. I bet they'll make a huge push with a web site version of Toonami since that is where most of the focus of anime is.

That's great news! even though this doesn't affect me at all.

I'm deeply concerned about their definition of "original anime programming".

I hope they go in that direction, a fully featured Toonami streaming site would be fantastic.

Either way, Toonami coming back is really cool. I hope they have the right balance on new and old anime on it, I imagine getting that balance right will be pretty important.
