The story of a schoolgirl and her intentionally-annoying classmate in the next seat over.

Overview

Tonari no Seki-kun is a comedic series of shorts written and illustrated by Takuma Morishige. Most of them take place in a classroom between two kids sitting at their desks.  It began as a one-shot manga published in the August 2010 issue of Media Factory's Comic Flapper magazine and later started serialization in the magazine's November 2010 issue. The first official tankobon paperback was published on April 23, 2011, and four volumes have been released as of April 2013.

Plot

Rumi Yokoi is a normal middle-school student, or at least she tries to be, but she can't stop being distracted by her classmate Toshinari Seki who sits in the desk next to her. He continuously goofs off in class and plays incredibly complex and weird games with a seemingly endless supply of items from under his desk. Yokoi can't help but be sucked into his strange games, but every time she calls him out no one seems to believe her.

Characters

  • Rumi Yokoi--The "straight man" in this unfortunate comedy duo, her overreactions drive most of the series' humor.
  • Toshinari Seki--The odd boy who seems to have an endless supply of game pieces and supplies under his desk, often uses them to troll Yokoi, but can instantly switch back before he is called out on his antics.
