Tomoe

Tomoe is the yokai familiar for Mikage; the land god. However when Mikage left one day to go into town, Tomoe was left to take care of the shrine. When Nanami showed up out of the blue instead of Mikage he gets angry and leaves the shrine. However since Nanami has it now an inexperienced land god, the two shrine spirits take Nanami into the land of the yokai to find Tomoe. When they find him he had been at what can assumed as a local bar drinking with two female yokai.

The shrine spirits beg him to come home but he refuses them. Nanami yells at him that he is worthless and if he's going to act this way she isn't even going to stand around and beg him to come back. In anger she runs away towards the woods surrounding the land of the yokai.

Unfortunetly she runs into trouble when a demon finds her and wants to devour the new land god. Fearfully she runs away and ends up climbing a tree where she finds Tomoe. She asks if he's there to help her and he tells her he's just there to see her get eaten.

Suddenly the crazed demon grabs onto Nanami's leg and pulls her down. She grabs Tomoe and brings him down with her.

As they're in free fall, Nanami remembers what the shrine spirits about making a contract with a yokai; you have to kiss them. For fear of death, Nanami kisses Tomoe and he becomes her familiar. And he couldn't be angrier.

Tomoe bullies Nanami quiet a bit but he also looks out for her in odd ways.

Tomoe was once in love with a human. Back when he was a feared and free yokai he had a woman who deeply cared for him but she was sick and dying. He often tried to give her magical remedies that never ended up working. When she died he couldn't bear and began to simply wander for eternity, starving and thirsting himself. He then met Mikage who took him in and forced him to become his shrine's familiar. Tomoe swore he'd never fall in love with a human again.

After that, many years later Mikage suddenly disappeared into town. Tomoe developed a fear of Nanami disappearing that way as well so he opts to go with her even though he is afraid of human society.
