Tomoe Gozen

Origin

When Chie and others went in Yukiko's Midnight Channel to rescue Yukiko, Chie was confronted by her own Shadow. At first, just like Yosuke, Chie refused to believe what her Shadow form was saying at her and rejected it, which gave it more power and went rampaging. When it was defeated and accepted by Chie, it's transformed into her own Persona Tomoe Gozen, representing The Chariot Arcana.

Creation

Persona 4 PS2 (Jul 2008)

Tomoe Gozen is Persona of Chie Satonaka, one of main character from Shin Megami Tensei series of games and specifically the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 video game for the Playstation 2 . It's the sixth game of the franchise and was developed as a murder mystery RPG with deep social aspects. It was developed by ATLUS in Japan, directed by Katsuro Hashino , and character design by Shigenori Soejima . It was released in Japan in July 10, 2008, and in the U.S. on December 9, 2008.

The series was later adapted into a manga written and illustrated by Shuji Sogabe, and began serialization in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Black Maoh magazine on September 19, 2008. The anime adaption began in October of 2011 and is directed by Seiji Kishi.

Illustrated by Shigenori Soejima, Chie's Shadow represent her wish to have control over Yukiko, whom Chie was jealous of. Expressing her desire to control, her Shadow has theme of dominatrix, while having three school girls under her to support her.

Her Persona form on the other hand, which is also illustrated by Shigenori Soejima, is also based on Japanese mythology just like other Persona in the series. In Japanese mythology, Tome Gozen was a beautiful female samurai warrior, which is why the Persona Tomoe Gozen wears samurai armor parts around her waist. The reason why she wears yellow tracksuit the fact that Chie likes Kung-Fu, and when it comes to Kung-Fu, many people reference Bruce Lee and his famous yellow tracksuit, hence her design.
