As Connie shake and snap Armin, Armin wakes up and freaks out due to his inability to fight. When Ymir remarks that Armin is just a corpse and to leave him be, Connie yells at Ymir. Krista intervenes to stop the two from arguing. Ymir embraces Krista and tells Krista to marry her. Armin takes off, and as he swings through the streets, he remembers the time that Eren and Mikasa had helped him. Armin wants to be Eren and Mikasa's equal and not to be someone who needs protection. When Armin crashes, he spots Hannah giving Franz CPR. Hannah asks Armin to help her. Armin struggles to tell Hannah that Franz is dead when Hannah gives Franz CPR multiple times. Elsewhere in Trost District, the townspeople demands the boss of the trade federation to let them through the gate. However, the boss wants them to push his cargo. Suddenly, the Titan storms towards the townspeople. Mikasa fires her grappling hook into the Titan's neck and reels in to kill the Titan.

When the boss asks Mikasa to help push the cargo through the gate, Mikasa is shocked and states that her comrades are dying while the boss wastes precious time in the evacuation. Mikasa walks towards the man and states that sacrificing one life can saves many others. Then, the men rush to attack Mikasa. Mikasa knocks them out easily, and she threatens the man. The boss gives in and tells his men to pull the cart. The rest of townspeople run through the gate.

In a flashback, Mikasa recalls the fond memories of her family. Her mother praises Mikasa for doing a fine job in embroidering. When Mikasa's father hears a knock, he opens the door in hopes of expecting Dr. Jaeger. Later, Dr. Jaeger opens the door of Mikasa's home. He finds the corpse of Mikasa's parents. Dr. Jaeger asks Eren to wait for him at the base of the mountain while he gets help from the police. Deep in the forest, the slave traders remark if Mikasa would fetch some money. One of the men is infuriated with the other man for killing the mother. He states that mother would have fetch a higher price due to her pure Oriental blood. In an earlier scene, the slave trader stabs Mikasa's father to death. Mikasa's mother attacks the slave traders with a scissor. She urges Mikasa to run away. In their struggle, the men kills Mikasa's mother by striking her with his axe.

Then, Eren knocks on the door. One of the men greets Eren and tells him to go home. Eren stabs the men to death, and he retreats into the closet. When the man enters the closet, Eren stabs the man with a knife tied to the broom. As Eren pins the man on the ground, he stabs the man multiple times. After Eren frees Mikasa, Mikasa informs Eren that there was a third man. The man enters the cabin and kicks Eren. While the man chokes Eren, Eren urges Mikasa to fight back. Mikasa grabs the knife and plunges into the man's back after accepting the world is cruel and one must survive. Later that night, the soldiers are shocked at how the children fought back and killed the men. Dr. Jaeger attempts to talk sense into Eren and states that Eren did not consider her safety. Eren replies that he wanted to save Mikasa's life. Mikasa asks Dr. Jaeger where she would go since she has no home. Eren gives Mikasa his scarf and grasps Mikasa's hand. He tells Mikasa to head with him to their home.
