My top 3 are the ones who have such a high standing that I'll check out a few episodes of anything they make even if the description sounds like ass:

1) Studio Trigger. Basically everyone who was good at Gainax left and formed this studio. They also do probably the best looking CG for anime (see Black Rock Shooter TV series).

2) Production IG. Great animation and I generally like everything they attach their name to.

3) A-1 Productions. Another recent studio but they've done some pretty amazing animation.

These ones won't make me check out a show but they do good work... when they want to:

1) Madhouse. Very wonky imo. They have potential to make both the best and worst looking shows in a season. You never know which Madhouse is going to show up for any given series they work on.

2) Studio Pierrot. Similar to Madhouse, but their highs are never as high as MH, which is balanced by their lows never being as low.

Unfortunately, the library's computers doesn't allow speakers. I forgot to bring my headphones. I'm not well inform in companies, so I'll make the best of it.

  • Production IG - They had killer animations in the shows I watched in the past: Guilty Crown and Robotics;Notes. Attack on Titan (Collaborated with Wit Studio) had some issues.
  • A-1 Pictures - They may not have spectacular animation, but they have done great shows. However, Sword Art Online is an exception. Though, they have made some questionable changes to anime adaptations of manga series like Magi and Black Butler. I loved them for bringing Fairy Tail, Oreimo, and Shin Sekai Yori.

My Top 5 are:

1. Sunrise - Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Dirty Pair, Crusher Joe, City Hunter, Escaflowne, Code Geass, Gintama. The shear amount of great series is endless with them and that Hajime Yatate is one cool guy.

2. Gainax - Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Gunbuster, FLCL, Medaka Box. The few works this studio has are all pretty amazing or atleast noteworthy.

3. Tatsunoko - Gatchaman, Casshern, Tekkaman, Hurricane Polymar, Time Bokan, Speed Racer. The intellectual properties this studio owns and created are all pretty cool. They are essentially Japan's superhero company like Marvel or DC.

4. Madhouse - Trigun, Casshern Sins, High School of the Dead, Perfect Blue, Black Lagoon. The studio is pretty hit or miss for me but when they get it right its pretty damn amazing. They have that similar mature style you mentioned about Bones.

5. Toei Animation - Dragon Ball, One Piece, Toriko, Dr. Slump, Sailor Moon, Mazinger. Toei has always been the one to handle all of the top selling series. They do unfortunately have some flaws in all of their shows since most of their target audience is kids so the production deteriorate over time later in their series.

Honorable Mentions: Bones, Trigger, Shaft and Studio Pierrot.

  1. Studio Ghibli - Produce arguably the most consistently good animé works
  2. Shaft - Their work on the Monogatari world I truly love. They have also worked on Dance in the Vampire Bund,
  3. Madhouse Studios - Redline was the animé that made me seek them out. The Animatrix (Program and World Record), Batman: Gotham Knight (In Darkness Dwells and Deadshot), Beyblades, Claymore, Princess Resurrection, Chaos;Head, Btooom, and Highschool of the Dead.
  4. Production I.G - Although I watched Medabots from this company first, Guilty Crown was what made me aware of them. Looking back, I've watched shows they've made such as FLCL, Ghost in the Shell, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (although I need to finish the series off), XxxHolic, and Batman: Gotham Knight [Crossfire].
  5. Bones - I believe Bones was the first studio I realised in animé. I never watched a lot of animé until after Eureka Seven came out. That was all the types of genre I enjoy. They have made other shows such as Un-Go. Star Drive, Blast of Tempest (which I've not yet watched - but want to), and RahXephon.

I could site Toei for Dragon Ball.

Let's see:

1. Madhouse- Known to make anime for a wide range of genres. Many titles they've made are among my personal favorites like Monster, Denno Coil, Paradise Kiss, Perfect Blue, Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

2. Sunrise- Many of their titles and franchises are very enjoyable and great in quality. A good number of Bandai's old titles were stuff that this studio put together like the Gundam franchise, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Infinite Ryvius and the Crest/ Banner of the Stars space opera franchise.

3. Production I.G.- Many of their works are known to be nicely animated and/ or have great stories to tell. Notable favorites of mine from the studio include Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Patlabor, the Ghost in the Shell TV titles, Genshiken, Ghost Hound and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.

4. Studio Deen- A good number of popular and hidden gems are among this studio's work that I've watched through. While many will remember them for their work on Rurouni Kenshin, Fruits Basket and Higurashi; I also know Deen for their work on not as well-known gems like Simoun, Emma: Victorian Romance, You're Under Arrest and Eden's Bowy.

5. Studio Ghibli- While I haven't enjoyed many of the studio's more recent films, I still love what they did with their older works like Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso and Nausicaa.

ok funny watching you almost crap up...but what is sco? So I actually had to go look and see which studios did the shows I like, as I never noticed before. I pay attention more to creators than studios.

1. Production IG - xxxHolic, and Ghost in the Shell. Ghost in the Shell (along with Lain) being what got me into anime

2. Gainax - Eva, Gurren Lagan this is the big boy

3. Bones

4. Radix - simply for Haibane Renmei which I think is the best anime every created

5. Aic - Now and Then Here and There, and El-Hazard Ah, My Goddes.

Honorable mention to Triangle Staff for Lain, and honorable mention to Gonzo for Gankutsuou, Last Exile,

I tend to follow anime creators rather than studios except for Gainax and bones (and now Production IG since I know what they did) maybe another list of Anime Creators next?

Abe - who I was lucky enough to meet and get my copy of Haibane Renmei signed - would be my top.

In my top 10:

JC Staff

Studio 4°C

5. Kyo Ani - Highly impressive animation. Yeah, they're best know for their silly fare, but you don't have to make purely "deep" anime to be great in my eyes.

4. Gainax - One of the biggies. I grew up with their stuff, and continue to love them.

3. Production IG - They've done production on so many series and films, but for GiTS alone I love them.

2. Studio Gibli- Fun for all ages, fun for the whole family. Just a pleasure to behold.

1. Bones- Magnificent animation. I think they have such a consistent
