This show left me spiraling in disappointment the first time around.

I watched Gurren Lagann back in May 2013 when Crunchyroll streams 3 episodes a week. It's an unforgettable show with a good cast of characters.

Kill la Kill is a light hearted version of Gurren Lagann. What Kill la Kill doesn't have is the awesome quote, the dream, and the drive to fight and never give up. Plus, Gurren Lagann builds these intense situations of life and death. Though, it's too early to call out Kill la Kill. No show can really fill in Gurren Lagann's shoes.

I tapped out after 4 episodes. Literally hated every character. The hot-blooded but ultimately retarded male is my least favorite type of anime character and that's one of the main characters for the episodes I saw. I hear he dies later but I couldn't stand the show enough to wait for that payoff. I thought the animation and art style were pretty awesome but that was the only thing I could enjoy. Reminded me a lot of Star Driver in the sense that visuals were the only element I could tolerate.

Plus, I think I started watching it along with a bunch of stuff that offered more than cool animation and character types I loathed so it was easy to drop it in exchange for stuff I wasn't hating. I've seen some Sakuga vids of it though. Those were cool and basically showed me the good stuff in about 5 minutes.

@sickVisionz: Interesting I usually don't have much tolerance for stupid characters at all (I worry that we are heading to idiocracy as a country) but I didn't find Komina stupid at all really but then I like characters that don't give up even when it seems hopeless I consider that a valuable trait. The main character in Now and Then Here and There also didn't annoy me.

My problem is that these hot-blooded characters are always borderline mentally challenged. I don't know why the anime manifestation of trying hard has to be tied with being a total and complete moron. Komina is like Rock Lee and Guy from Naruto cranked up to 11... and those two are already hot-blooded cranked up to 11.

If you love it, you love it. I hate it though. Everyone has their thing that immediately turns them off in anime. That's mine.

@sickVisionz: Oh no judgement intended I just didn't seem him as borderline mentally challenged. Sorry the show didn't do it for you, that kind of character can be grating Naruto's outlook in Naruto I find grating at times but I don't pay enough attention to the show for that to be what turns me off. Be well!

It been six years, since Gurren Lagann came out. I think we need at lease four more years for a hold up :)

Anyway, I love Gurren Lagann. It one of the funnest Anime I have saw. I always have a good time watching

My problem is that these hot-blooded characters are always borderline mentally challenged.

So what is wrong with being overly positive, that make them borderline mentally challenged? I find it way better then being negative. But this is coming from a guy who love Super Sentai and Shonen Anime/Manga :)
