The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant - 自来也豪傑物語 (Jiraiya gōketsu monogatari)
Having lost his arm, Jiraiya is outmatched by the six Pains now appearing before him. Of the six, the one called Tendo is revealed to be Jiraiya’s former student Yahiko. Jiraiya is still puzzled by the Rinnegan’s true powers, but before he can gather his thoughts, he is forced back into battle.

Points of Interest
- The opening song actually opens this episode. In previous episodes, the opening theme hasn't appears until nearly a third way into the story.
- Tsunade says she's betting Jiraiya wont return. She is infamous for losing any bet she makes. The only time she wins a bet, a great tragedy follows in her life. She's hoping by betting against him that he'll return.
- Though the actual Pain (Nagato) does not appear in any of these battles, he is controlling the bodies that are seen. All are dead and have been reanimated by his powers.
- When Jiraiya sees the scar on the Animal Path's forehead, he recognizes him as a ninja from the Fuma Clan that he fought many years ago. This event was shown in Naruto Shippuden - Episode 129.
- Konan only appears in this episode in flashback.
- The scenes of Jiraiya telling Orochimaru that a ninja's best skill is the will to never give up is from Naruto - Episode 94.Many of the other scenes are from the Search for Tsunade arc.
