Despite living as Beth, Maya still has trouble grasping Beth's illness. Depressed, she stays out late one night in the rain and becomes ill the day of the "Little Women" performance. With a 40 degree
fever, Maya must persevere through the whole play in front of a large batch of
Japanese theatre critics invited to the show by a devious Masumi, hoping that
they will witness the Tsukikage group's failure. When he hears of Maya's illness, Masumi feels guilty and confused about Maya's utter dedication to her craft. In order to encourage her he anonymously sends her a bouquet of purple roses and a note saying that he is her fan.
