Welcome to the The Pet Girl of Sakurasou discussion thread. Whether you're watching the anime or reading the manga, you're already knee-deep in the series or you're checking it out for the first time, you're more than welcome here.

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama

Plot: Sorata is kicked out of his high-school dorms for keeping a cat, and moves into a small dorm called Sakurasou. It turns out that all the residents, in addition to being uncontrollable and weird, are outstanding in some way: a well-known animator, a scriptwriter, a programmer. A beautiful girl called Mashiro moves in who is an internationally known painter but is so devoted to art that she can't even dress herself, and Sorata is given the job of looking after her. Through her and the other residents, he learns who he is and what he wants to do.

All right, I tried the first two episodes of the series. It was not bad. I think I like this series, but I don't have time to catch up until school's over plus the other wiki projects. The anime series is wacky, funny, and it has a bit of fan service which I didn't expect. It reminds me of Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka and Astarotte's Toy but not too similar. I haven't watch lot of shows with fan service.

I love how Mashiro is like a sheltered prodigy who has no social skills or etiquette. Plus, that other girl pretty promiscuous. Her childhood friend is trying his best not to get tempted by her. We'll see how long he will stay celibate.

I was surprised that the Sorata's seiyuu, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, is Kirito and Godou Kusanagi's VA as well.

Sorry I'll comment way later in December.

Edit:

Since I like the show, I'll jump in the wiki project with you in winter break.

@takashichea: Glad you like it, it has a good mix of drama and comedy and swings pretty far in both directions without really losing balance. Sakurasou is what I look forward to the most each week at the moment.

Heh, I think you have that a little backwards, considering Jin is the playboy sleeping with countless girls and Misaki is the one left hanging. Jin is anything but celibate and Misaki's apparent promiscuity is just part of her, uhh, eccentric personality. She teases and flirts with Sorata but she's just fooling around, she's not really serious. I don't think it digs very deep into Jin and Misaki's relationship in the first too episodes, but it does later on.

Finished watching the first 12 episodes yesterday. It is a very good show. I was so pleasantly surprised by it. It's not really the type of anime that I usually enjoy but I surely enjoyed that. It is funny but it can also get a bit dramatic at times without overdoing it. And the characters are so interesting. Really looking foward to the new episodes.

@ComicMan24: Knew you'd like it. I tends to be, if I really like it, you at least like it. I've enjoyed all the episodes and always felt I wanted to watch the next episode right away.

Off topic: You watched Rebuild of Evangelion yet?

Post by ComicMan24 (8,759 posts) See mini bio Level 12

@Supreme Marvel: Pure coincidence. That's all XP

Really looking forward to the next episode this week. IIRC, there are only 10 episodes left.

Not yet. Been meaning to but didn't have the chance.

@ComicMan24: I can bring up our conversation about you liking anything I suggest. I have scans to prove it. :P

Yeah, I'm glad it wasn't the regular 12 episode series.

Gaaaaaay. Do you have them? ;)

Post by ComicMan24 (8,759 posts) See mini bio Level 12

@Supreme Marvel: Scans you made, of course. Try to prove you didn't make them :P

Me too, even though I don't usually mind a series being only 12 episodes long. But it really depends on the show.

Yeah, I just had other things I wanted to wath first which I still haven't finished, plus I have been experiencing some technical difficulties that set me back a bit. But I will try to watch them as soon as I can.

@ComicMan24: I think its cool in animé, what I've noticed the last few years they've mentioned England a lot. I remember hearing in the English dub of Highschool of the Dead, on the news, they said everyone is having difficulty with the zombie threat (as it just began). It seems though England have it under control. YEAAAAH BOY!!

Get watching them, you! I love the second one.

@Supreme Marvel: lol Feel the same way, everytime they mention or show something Greek-related in anime. Also in that case, you should check the Black Butler. The entire anime takes place in England. Victorian England that is but still England. Plus I love when they speak English in the subs. Engrish ftw lol

Stop pressuring me!! I will eventually...

@ComicMan24: Well you have the whole ancient Greece with the gods like Zeus and such. Loads of mediums love using them. Obviously you know soundtrack of Guilty Crown. You're never far from something related to your country. Campione had ties to Greek Gods, right? I got bored and turned it off early.

Post by ComicMan24 (8,759 posts) See mini bio Level 12

@Supreme Marvel: True, Greek mythology is used quite a lot in anime. Love that soundtrack really, so many nice tracks there. Yeah, it had actually. I thought it was an ok anime. For its genre anyway. Anyway, I think we derailed this thread enough lol

Like the new episode. It was interesting seeing Shiina developing more as a person and experiencing those feelings for the first time. Also Miisaki's attempts to hit on Jin were hilarious. I can understand why Jin is hesitant on starting something with her, since he is going to study in a different college than her later. Although I do hope that the anime is not going to turn into some romantic drama with Kanda, Shiina and Aoyama later even though the show has shown so far that it can go from cmedy to drama very skillfully. The new OP and ED were nice, I liked them.

I'm on episode 4. I'm so behind y'all. It's safe to say I'm in love with this anime series.

@Daniel_Newton:

Hey Daniel, should we add maid-chan (without the honorific) to the characters? I was watching the anime up to episode 7 for Ryūnosuke Akasaka to show up. Both are voiced by Yui Horie, Carla's seiyuu.

This series is becoming a platonic harem since we know Nanami is all antsy around Sorata, and Shiina, she has an interest in Sorata. Unlike Nanami, she is less subtle. In episode 7, Yuko arrives, and man, she loves her big bro. I mean her wish was to get spoiled by Sorata.

@takashichea: Yeah, she should have a page. Software or not, she is clearly sentient and self-aware. I would leave the honorific in her name though, it helps define her and seems to be treated as part of her actual name.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "platonic harem" since platonic love means non-sexual love and a harem in anime is typically a group of characters who are all sexually attracted to one other character. Seems like a contradiction to me.

Nanami and Shiina are both clearly attracted to Sorata, though Nanami understands that but Shiina is confused by her feelings. Yuko at least thinks she's "in love" with her brother but that's just a typical little sister archetype. I doubt she's genuinely attracted to him in any kind of sexual way, she just loves her big bother a lot.

I don't want to spoil anything for you so you need to catch up :P

@Daniel_Newton:

Man, have I been using the word platonic wrong? I remember Sotyfan16 was talking to me on Twitter about that stuff when he told me that Highschool of the Dead, Infinite Stratos, and some other series wasn't platonic. I wrote some articles on how Fate Stay Night and Kore wa Zombie desu Ka? had a platonic harem theme. What I mean was platonic was like the main hero or heroine has these average, everyday relationships with the potential love interests. Only one serious relationship can occur.

Darn, I was trying to differentiate harems into a different category where a harem doesn't have any strong, obvious relationships. Anything can happen. I just didn't have the right word and used platonic. I was trying to write a new series of blogs, but I didn't know much harem titles, so I asked some experts like PenguinDust, Sotyfan16, and Wales.

Here's the link: Platonic Harem Edition: Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?.

Back to Pet Girl of Sakura Hall, that explains Shiina's situation. I forgot that she was raised in all girls school back in England. I'll catch up to you.

Watching Jin and Misaki's relationship is a bit a test of patience where I yell at Jin to stop bagging on himself and confess. In time, something good would happened.

I got 7 more episodes and 4 summaries done. I'll add Maid-chan in the meantime.

Really can't decide which one of them I want to end up with Sorata. I like both Nanami and Shiina. This is tough.
