If you were under a rock (relative to the anime world) When the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya came out, you're familiar with the ASOS Brigade: the American version of Haruhi and friends, starring in videos to promote the upcoming release.

Well, the girls are back-- sorta. A new ASOS Brigade has been formed starring voice actress Cristina Vee (who also offers up her English version of the second season OP, "Super Driver"), and a new Mikuru and Yuki as well. Actually, the Yuki is pretty darn cute.

Anyway, they officially announce the license of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya second season!

Unfortunately there's some "mysterious" technical difficulty preventing us from getting the release dates for the series, but now you know it's coming. For sure. Which we kinda did. But hey, fun videos!

NOTE: Cristina Vee has NOT been cast as any role in the English dub officially at this point. They mention it in the video as something "we'll see" about.

ENDLESS EIGHT YET AGAIN!

Huh. That English cover wasn't bad at all. I wonder how they'll handle releasing the same episode.. Personally, I wouldn't touch Endless Eight again with a ten foot pole. I love these kinds of cheesy marketing campaigns though.

@Sigue: Yeah, I'm wondering as well-- I'm kinda thinking they'd have to release it as a box set to get away with it in the US, but on the other hand, I may be underestimating US fans' devotion...or the ability of the Japanese licensors to force some other kind of release scheme on BEI.

We'll see!

Gia and John only described Endless Eight to me, and I understand why fans who had to watch it a week at a time were less than thrilled, but it sounds like total mad brilliance to me.  But then I also thought episodes 25 and 26 of Eva were the pinnacle of artistic achievement in any animation, or possibly anyTHING, ever.  The rebuilds can SUCK IT!

@AHR: 3 episodes would have been brilliance. Eight is just too much, especially after the delay between the seasons and Kadokawa's marketing campaign. I can't imagine myself buying three or four DVDs with the same episode on them. It's ridiculous. It might sound great, but it was impossible for me to be interested in actually watching the episodes week after week - nevermind watching them again on DVD. Even if some people call it "artistic", what's the point if you don't want to watch it?

Wow... Cristina Vee can sing pretty well! That's definitely one of the better english version songs I've heard. Still, I really doubt this will stack very high on my list of DVDs to purchase.

More Haruhi, yay! Wonder if they'll all be Special Edition releases again, whaaa for my pocketbook. Still feel a little sting from the holiday special that RightStuf had (all SE volumes for the price I had paid for just volume 1), but at the same time at least I was able to support Haruhi here as it was released. Look forward to more information!

The best part about all this?  In addition to being a voice actor, the reason Cristina Vee got the role because she's a super enthusiastic fan-girl:

http://nebs66.livejournal.com/716135.html      <- The same costume, which she made a year & a half ago to go to a con as a FAN.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ValliereVee#g/u    <- Her personal YouTube page, which should attest to her fangirl ways.

Which just proves, kids, that being an otaku can lead to great things!

They should really let Christina Vee dub the opening & ending songs for the new release, but I hope they keep the original dub cast.

I hope they're planning to go for a box set release, with just the new season two episodes. My nightmare isn't buying Endless Eight -- it's getting stuck having to buy all the season one episodes again if they decide to go for a true chronological release.

I'm sure her Anime Olympics bit hasn't hurt her visibility. Though, like AO, I can't say I was terribly entertained watching this, but that's just a personal thing.

Though the cover wasn't terrible.

Duuuude. Monosound makes me a sad panda. Also is it just me or is producer in constant monotone.
@John_Martone:

Ya same, although the other ones were pretty awesome. I mean Gina Li fits her character, but I'm not so sure about Karrie Shirou and well Patricia Ja Lee was way better as Haruhi. Also I'm not so sure about the possibility of having Christina Vee as Haruhi (I mean another roll would be cool) since Wendee Lee did such an amazing job in the first release and Patricia Ja Lee in the original ASOS. Either way though I'd still watch the dub so long as Crispin Freeman comes back as Kyon.

I never been that much of fan of Haruhi Suzumiya myself.  Is it worth all the hype.
Post by John_Martone (2,992 posts) See mini bio Level 10
@Konanda: I didn't even really consider it. I mean, if they replace Wendee Lee I'm gonna have a hard time justifying the dub. Its how I tend to watch the series, but yeah... she did a great job. Not that Crispin Freeman didn't, but you know...
