I just caught word on KyoAni's site that a new trading card game for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, titled Hacha Mecha Battle Party, is being launched. I suspect it's more of just a promo campaign than something expected to reach Yu-Gi-Oh! levels of game-playing prominence, but it looks kind of cute-- you have character cards and "happening" cards and presumably your goal is to keep Haruhi from destroying the world.
A second game set has also been announced, a "Character Serifu game." (I'm not entirely sure how to romanize serifu here-- sure, it looks like "serif," but it translates to character dialogue. It's sort of like an anime version of the Japanese card game karuta, in which you pick up one card from a stack and everyone races to match it to the proper card laid out with others on a table or the floor. In this case, though, it looks like you're working to either match text quotes to characters, or alternatively dialogue played off of a special CD. I think the real draw on this one is the art, however; the case features all five of the SOS Brigade in beautiful, traditional kimono, and it really looks cool.
What do you guys think? Would you play a Haruhi TCG? Bandai Entertainment's parent company really loves bringing that kind of thing out here, after all. I know we have a few YGO players out there-- I want to hear from you!
