Though many of the events follow the canon of the manga series. Many characters that appear in this episode were not present in the canon story. Those include, Maes Hughes, Vato Falman, Marin, and Marin's Mom. Also, Mustang never has contact with Bald until the train arrives and everything has been concluded.
The events of this episode were also changed in context and time line. In the manga, the train hostage taking was set after the events in Liore and the city of Youswell. Edward was also already a State Alchemist at the time. The Elric Brothers were also on their way to East City, but in this episode they are headed for Central City.
