The legend of Korra continues the epic tale of the Avatar. Set 70 years in the future, the world now thrives in a technological revolution and bending isn't viewed in such a positive light...
Seventy years after the Hundred Years War, Avatar Aang has passed on and the time has come for the new Avatar to be selected. Finding a young waterbender named Korra, it is evident she is the new Avatar as she sets off to begin her training of the four elements. Already having mastered fire, earth, and water at a remarkably early age, she has one element left to master: air. With a mass shortage of airbenders in the world, the responsibility is left to a man who knew Aang too well: his youngest son Tenzin. However, Tenzin cannnot train Korra in the South Pole so she must relocate to Republic City; the iconic city Aang and Fire Lord Zuko created to be a center of peace in the world between benders and non-benders.
However, Korra quickly discovers that beneath the beauty of the city lies the underbelly of crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to tear republic city apart. Knowing that her responsibilities involve keeping the city peaceful, she discovers new allies in the form of pro-bending brothers Mako and Bolin and an even greater threat than she ever could have imagined. The leader of The Equalists, Amon. Behind the mask is a scarred man who has a power that makes even the quick tempered and fierce Avatar crumble to her knees.
Korra is a Water Tribe girl from the South Pole and the new Avatar. Displaying the abilities to bend water, fire, and earth at the age of four, Korra has grown up as a fierce fighter who goes into a battle without the best laid plans. Despite not having touched the spiritual side of her role as the Avatar, it is shown that she is a caring girl who wants whats best for other people. She moved to Republic City to learn airbending from Aang's youngest son, Tenzin.
Tenzin is the youngest of Aang and Katara's three children and the airbending master in the world. Residing on Air Temple Island, a facility he built with his father, he trains people in the ways of the Air Nomads. He agrees to allow Korra to live with him and his family on the island where she will learn the arts of airbending from him. He is also a high councilor of Republic City and one of the more respected benders in the world.
Amon is the mysterious leader and figure head behind the revolutionary group, The Equalists. Stating that his hatred of benders came from an attack on his family, he leads a group of chi blockers to vanquish the bending elite forever. Amon claims that the spirits have spoken to him directly and are displeased with the balance in the world. As a result, he someone learned a deadly skill that all benders will come to fear.
Mako is the older brother of the Fire Ferrets, a pro-bending team in Republic City. He encounters Korra one night as she sneaks in to watch a match and discovers who she is relatively quickly. Despite being very cold and abrasive, he is willing to do what it takes to fend for his little brother as he works with Korra to discover what are The Equalists up to in Republic City.
Bolin is the younger brother of Mako and of the Fire Ferrets. An earthbender, he was a year younger than Mako when his parents died and has been involved with a few gang activities in Republic City. He become unknowingly involved in the Revolution as he is willing to work with Korra and Mako to keep the peace in the city.
