A group of college graduates try to make money by pooling their talents into a service that locates corpses, determines their final wish, and grants it to them...if money can be found in the process.

A horror manga written by Eiji Otsuka, author of MPD Psycho, and illustrated by Housui Yamazuki, most well known for writing and illustrating the series Mail. The manga chronicles a group called the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, which aims to assist the recently deceased in resolving any final problems they might have had before death.

Your body is their business! Five young students at a Buddhist university, three guys and two girls, find little call for their job skills in today's Tokyo . . . among the living, that is! But all that stuff in college they were told would never pay off-you know, channeling, dowsing, ESP-gives them a direct line to the dead . . . the dead who are still trapped in their corpses and can't move on to the next reincarnation.

The five form the Kurosagi ("Black Heronî-their ominous bird logo) Corpse Delivery Service: whether suicide, murder, accident, or illness, they'll carry your body wherever it needs to go to free your soul! The kids from Kurosagi can smell a customer a mile away--it's a good thing one of the girls majored in embalming!

Publishing History

Kurosagi first began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Mystery. However, in late 2006 the series switched magazines to the more popular Shonen Ace, which necessitated a shift in both storytelling style and a shift from the formerly episodic storytelling style. It is now serialized in the magazine Young Ace.
Kadokawa Shoten serialized the first volume in November 2002. There are currently 13 volumes that have been released, the most recent being released on July 2, 2010.
In North America, the series is serialized by Dark Horse, where it retains its original right-to-left format. Dark Horse released the first volume on August 23, 2006. They have currently released 11 volumes of the series, with the twelfth slated for release on June 8, 2011.

Kuro Karatsu
A bald-headed student monk. Kuro has the ability to converse with the dead by means of relaying their words when he touches them, making him the only means of understanding the wishes of their clients. He can also, involuntarily, cause the corpses of those who died to temporarily come back to life, which usually happens during cases wherein the victim had been wronged by another.
Makoto Numata
The resident tough guy of the group, with more than a passing resemblance to Harima Kenji. Makoto makes use of a pendulum which allows him to dowse, or search for, objects, making him useful as a locator for the group.
Ao Sasaki
The boss and mastermind behind the group. Although not as direct with their clients as other members of the team, her computer skills and extensive web of contacts helps the team to finish the job quickly and establish the facts.
Keiko Makino
A trained embalmer, Keiko practices an art not generally in use in Japan, considering the preference for cremation, which forced her to study in the United States.
Yuji Yata
A timid student, and the group's resident occult expert. He wears a felt puppet on his left hand, which is sarcastic and often berates him for various character flaws.
