|Kawai Complex full of Weirdos||1 out of 1 user found this review helpful.|
The Kawai Complex Guide is one thee best romantic comedy series to come out this spring. Now you may be asking, but wait LHW, what makes this story so great for you to say that it is one of the best, when it has a very cliche premise.
Well the simple answer would be the Characters, that this series focuses on. While the story itself might be cliche, each character of this story is so interesting and play almost perfectly off each other.
Our male lead Kazunari Usa starts off as your typical male lead who was sent to the Kawai dormitory that he would instantly grow to hate.
Like all of the other members of this series Usa has a very odd quality to him that seems to attract weird people to him no matter where he goes, a trait that had gotten him the nickname Oddball handler.
Usa of course despise that title and doesn't wish his new dorm-mates to find out about.
Usa's personality is at face value is the typical nice guy, however the other side of is personality is that of a blunt and sarcastic teen who says the first thing that comes to mind when his other dorm-mates are being for lack of a better term, weirdos.
Usa has a huge crush on a girl that lives in the same dorm named Ritsu Kawai. He is very open with his attraction for her and does everything that he could think of to get her to notice him.
Unlike most male leads, Usa isn't the type that doesn't realize when he has feelings for Ritsu and isn't the overly perverted type of character.
Most of his reactions are some of the funniest things about the show and the good part about them is that they never go too far with some of the moments where you could easily make crude perverted jokes.
The next character is our female lead Ritsu Kawai. Ritsu is the book-warm type character who always has her face buried in a good and is always emotionless, never really interacting with the real world more than she has to.
Ritsu's unique quirk however is that she has emotional outbursts while reading which sometimes causes others to misinterpret the situation and leads to some truly funny moments.
Personality wise, Ritsu is very shy and introverted, having poor people skills. but at the same-time she will get distract, whenever something catches her eye and she has some of the most cutest scenes in this series.
All of the others characters are pretty funny as well.
Shiro is a masochist that gets off when the others abuse him or he abuses himself, but he also has times where he can give good advice to his dorm-mates and other times he will purposely say something to make the girls attack him.
Mayumi is a women in her mid twenties who has bad luck with men and as such flies off the handle ever time someone else is having an intimate moment and she is the person who abuses Shiro the most.
Mayumi character was done expertly well in my opinion as every time she freaks out, she does so in a way that causes you to laugh because of how immature she is acting and by how adorably cute she can be.
Sayaka is the college student who seems to have a physical attraction to Mayumi and can't seem to keep her hands to the older women, which is pretty hilarious, because she can overpower a grown woman.
Sayaka is the troll of the series, always looking for someway to manipulate men and her dorm-mates on a regular basis, while acting all innocent.
Finally we have Sumiko, who is the manager of their dormitory. She is usually the voice of reason who sometimes has to threaten to Sayaka when the girl has gone a little to far and she probably the most normal, although that isn't saying much.
Overall this is a very solid cast that would keep with entertain.
Now animation wise, this show is typical shojo style animation, although in my opinion it's actually pretty enjoyable because it's very bright and colorful.
In short very pretty I guess.
Sound wise is not anything to write home about, but it's still good.
Overall this series is a must watch for all romcom lovers.
8/10 for romcoms and a 7.5/10 for series.
