Maetel is kidnapped

The Galaxy Express 999 has a layover at the Spherical Housing Complex Planet, a planet comprised of a series of floating houses. After exiting the train, Maetel and Tetsuro are ambushed by strange men and Maetel is kidnapped. After doing some investigating, Tetsuro discovers that the Great Chieftain, the dictator of the planet, has kidnapped her. Tetsuro travels to his castle but accidentally ends up at the home of Tetsugoro Hoshino, a man who looks extremely similar to Tetsuro and has had his girlfriend Sakura kidnapped by the Great Chieftan as well and is plotting revenge. The two duo are discovered and captured by the Great Chieftan's henchmen but are able to escape with some quick thinking. Unfortunately, Tetsuro is gunned down after falling for a trap set by the henchmen.
