Originally a novel about a girl who learned that she could literally jump through time, the novel has been adapted into manga and into a highly-acclaimed animated movie.
Although the series shares the same name and is considered to be loosely based on Tsutsui's novel, the most popular item in this franchise-- the 2006 animated movie by Madhouse --actually takes a different plot from the book. Depending on one's interpretation, the movie could even be a sequel to Tsutsui's novel.
