Plot Summary

Everyone attacks the boss simultaneously, and the battle is won. With everyone exhausted, Kirito informs them that fourthteen of their group have perished. Everyone is shocked that they have to complete 25 more floors. Then, Kirito notices something strange with Commander Heathcliffe, and he strike Heathcliffe revealing the "Immortal Object" caption. Kirito states that Heathcliffe is Kayaba because Heathcliffe moved too fast in their duel. Kayaba comments that Kirito's dual wielding ability has exceeded his expectations, and he states that he is the final boss of the game. When Kayaba talks about how this is part of the fun, an angry Knights of the Blood Oath tries to strike Kayaba. However, Kayaba presses a menu button to paralyze everyone. Kayaba tells Kirito that he will reward him with a chance to challenge Heathcliffe in a one-on-one match. If Kirito wins, everyone will log off and come home safe. As Kirito remembers all of the horrible memories, he accepts Kayaba's challenge and reassures Asuna that he will win. Kirito apologizes to Klein for leaving him on that day, and Klein will not forgive Kirito unless Kirito buys him food in the real world. Kirito requests Kayaba to make sure Asuna will not commit suicide if Kirito dies. Asuna cries and pleads Kirito to stop.

Once the match starts, Kirito engages Kayaba in a flurry of attacks, and he presses himself to go faster. During his intense melee, Kirito finds his sword breaking after hitting Kayaba's shield. Before Kayaba could end Kirito's life, Asuna jumps in and intercepts Kayaba's fatal blow. Asuna dies in Kirito's arms, and Kirito cries out for her death. Kirito grabs Asuna's sword and swings with no effort. Kayaba knocks out Asuna's sword from Kirito's hands, and he impales Kirito. Kirito dies, but somehow, he comes back to life. At the same time, he impales Kayaba, and Kayaba impales Kirito. When Kirito's body crumbles into data, Silica, Lisbeth, and everyone feels Kirito's presence. A woman announced that the game has been cleared.

Somewhere in the skies, Kirito finds himself alive, and Asuna appears behind his back. Kirito apologizes to Asuna that he died. Asuna embraces Kirito and kisses him. They see Aincrad crumbling to pieces, and Asuna sees their summer home gone. Kayaba makes himself known to them. He informs them that his company is deleting everything in Sword Art Online. He informs that 6,147 people have logged out. Kirito asked him about the remaining 4,000 who had died. Kayaba states that their minds are lost forever, and Kirito asks him why he did it. Kayaba replies that he forgot his reasons long ago. He comments that he dreamed of creating a world and that someone will surpass his laws. He wants to escape the real world to reach the castle. Kayaba congratulates Asuna and Kirito for clearing the game. Asuna and Kirito kiss one more time, and Asuna tells him that they will disappear forever. Asuna asks Kirito for his real name, and Kirito replies it's Kirigaya Kazuto and his age. When Asuna tells him her real name and age, Kirito cries that he never live up to promise to go back home safe with her. The two embrace each other for the last time.

In the real world, Kirito wakes up to see that he has come back home, He wonders if Asuna is alive, and he begins crying again. He takes off his helmet and struggles to get up. Kirito walks off to find Asuna.
