Kirei enters the church to see his father dead on the floor. On the following day, he informs Tokiomi about the dead of Risei, and Tokiomi is angry. Gilgamesh asks why Kirei is not upset over the death of his father. At the storehouse, Maiya informs Iris and Saber about Tokiomi's propoasal for alliance. Iris states that she will accept. Over at the Tohsaka manor, Rin sees her father and mother together at the entrance. Tokiomi tells Rin that he believes in her and leaves her with a spell book. In the church, Tokiomi introduces Kirei while Kiritsugu listens to their conversations via a watch on Maiya's wrist. Iris tells Tokiomi about her proposals: information on Rider and his master and that Kirei must be removed from the Holy Grail War. She explains that she cannot trust Tokiomi with Kirei under his protection. Later, Iris reveals Kiritsugu's gift to Saber, a motorcycle. In the car, she collapses on Maiya's shoulder, and Iris explains how her body is ceasing to function and how she is a vessel for the Grail. When Maiya asks why Iris tells her the truth, Iris knows that Maiya will not pity her and that she works to protect Kiritsugu. Maiya tells Iris to die for the sake of Kiritsugu's dreams.

In the Tohsaka manor, Tokiomi asks Kirei to withdraw due to what Iris had said. While Kirei packs, he still wonders what Kiritsugu's motives are. Gilgamesh remarks that Kirei is debating over his options. Kirei learns where the Einzbern is hiding, and he reveals command seals on his arm. He explains that this is a gift from his father. When Gilgamesh mentions that he would be Kirei's enemy, Kirei explains that Tokiomi will have all servants died in order to activate the Grail and reveals a path to Root. Kirei asks what Gilgamesh would do, and the two look at each other as partners. In Tokiomi's work study room, Tokiomi gives Kirei a parting gift, an Azoth dagger; he requests Kirei to educate Rin as her guardian. As Tokiomi shows Kirei the door, Kirei slowly walks behind Tokiomi with a grin on his face. Kirei stabs Tokiomi in the back and explains that he never understood himself. Gilgamesh materializes, and Kirei forms a pact with him if Kirei serves Gilgamesh's interests. Kirei agrees to be his jester until he finds his answers.
